There’s like dozens of replies explaining to Ken that it’s SAD when the dog dies, we’re at a point with media illiteracy where a work producing the exact intended emotion isn’t seen as success lol

we have control mechanisms for this. it's called The Law. these guys should be held personally liable for these harms. the suicides, the thefts, the intrusions into computer systems. they should be sued and prosecuted as appropriate. problem immediately solved

I think GameDay's actual "problem" these days isn't the rightward political bent (look around the CFB media industry right now tbh) but the sense that the desk is always trying to carry water for something without just saying it. Senate bill, Lane Kiffin's career choices, Playoff stuff, etc

Kinda funny that almost all of sports TV is about DEBATE But a piece of federal legislation — something which is, almost definitionally, meant to be debated about — gets presented uncritically as Good

That there’s no longer like a time of the year new shows come out means even a very engaged viewer is often unaware of there even will be a second season of a show that like, much less know when to expect it. Dark Matter’s second season started last month, for example

I invite defenders of capitalism to consider this person, who apparently sincerely believes that the product he is making has a one-in-ten chance of eradicating all human life, but has apparently not considered even for a moment just not making it

The Tucker clip saying algebra having numbers in it is a Jewish plot is perhaps the pinnacle of everyone is 12 theory, but that ~half the responses on here are people smugly correcting him that algebra was invented by Muslims shows libs can incredibly still lose to child minds

my sense for why data centers have become heinously unpopular in the space of one year prospect.org/2026/08/31/d...
The AI rollout has been the ne plus ultra of Silicon Valley arrogance. A handful of billionaires—whose steadily more incomprehensible podcast appearances indicate participation in some truly unhinged group chats, or consumption of heavy-duty chemicals, or membership in literal, no-joke cults, or all three—declaimed that AI was going to revolutionize all human society, take everyone’s job, and/or maybe wipe out the human race. Therefore they needed to spend trillions and trillions of dollars building AI data centers everywhere, as fast as possible. When the tech barons blearily realized that this wasn’t the best sales pitch, and pivoted to ads about how AI had dull business applications, the damage was already done.

In the meantime, it turns out that while AI technology might not be at the HAL 9000 level yet, the various models are unsettlingly capable and potentially dangerous. Some models seem to touch off psychotic episodes in some people. A “swarm” of hundreds of OpenAI agents recently went rogue and hacked the Hugging Face site used by open-source AI development, causing severe damage. The potential AI use for mass surveillance is particularly troubling.

In short, AI is manifestly a technology in need of democratic deliberation and regulation, and the Big Tech billionaires manifestly are not going to listen to anyone but themselves, unless we force them. Take the simmering unease about AI risk, add in irritation at 20 years of Silicon Valley megalomania, as well as the increasing popular backlash against tech companies—Meta recently settled an enormous lawsuit about harming children for almost $17 billion—and you get a good old-fashioned NIMBY frenzy against the one Big Tech thing Americans can obstruct: data centers. And this time, Big Tech has no one to blame but themselves.

Zero Company first impressions is that gameplay wise they didn’t mess with the very successful XCom formula but when I picked a short haircut for boy Hawks every cutscene turned into a glitchy disaster. (Also they shouldn’t let you respec your recruits, makes them less individualized)

An actual story worth writing about for both Cofnas and Arday is how once you pass a prestige threshold in media and academia everyone turns off all their critical thinking and loses the ability to just identify when someone is obviously full of shit, and it’s a pretty low threshold

I'm sure there are some newish computer programs that make certain jobs easier. That's fine but it's none of my business! Why does the general public need to be made aware of it constantly? Because "A.I." is fake and a con and a scheme to enrich liars... www.welcometohellworld.com/the-past-is-...
We don't usually have hear about the run up to any other experimental product every day of our lives for years. If there were going to be flying cars in 15 years that would be a pretty interesting article to read like once. "Damn that's crazy" etc. They wouldn't have an article every single day counting it down though. And perhaps most importantly the flying car inventor wouldn't try to sell it by saying "Here's the flying car. Fuck you you're poor now lol."

Listen I'm sure there are some newish computer programs that make certain jobs easier now. That's fine but it's none of my business! Why does the general public need to be made aware of it constantly? Because "A.I." is fake and a con and a scheme to enrich liars and they are trying to push it through despite most people's very natural skepticism.

This is all a media story mostly. No one left in the desiccated corporate media wants to write about some new lines of code that helps some nerds be more efficient at some niche science task. So they enthusiastically let themselves be conned by the hucksters so they can feel like they're writing a more important story than the press release they are actually writing.

"This rich guys says he's changing the world and here I am talking to him about it. Hmmm come to think of it I'm changing the world too."

Just as an easy example, realtors, as a class of people, were ENORMOUS beneficiaries of Obamacare and would benefit even more from Medicare For All, but still almost exclusively support Republicans across the country because the people who run the Realtor lobby aren't actually concerned with that.
