To me, there is no contradiction because 'using AI' isn't one activity. Writing a prompt and building tools are different acts, with a fundamentally different relationship to conceptualisation and creation. 4473

Alex @aladenrex.eldritch.buzz · 19/06/2026I think "local" probably splits into three tiers: 1. Edge - potentially battery powered. Phones, cameras, laptops, speakers. 2. Desktop - Like a KitchenAid. Headless or not. Runs fine on 120v in a warm room. 3. Major Appliance - like an oven or water heater. Needs 240V and good cooling/ventilation 130

Alex @aladenrex.eldritch.buzz · 23/05/2026I'm not making this distinction in bad faith and don't mean to present myself as authoritative. I am thinking aloud. Let's say an author has ideas and writes a book. I read it and have new ideas building on what the author wrote. Is there a relationship between the author's intelligence and my own? 110
Alex @aladenrex.eldritch.buzz · 23/05/2026And I'm not saying nobody has explored this! I'm sure I have reading to do. I am grateful for these conversations bringing these questions to my attention. 030
Alex @aladenrex.eldritch.buzz · 23/05/2026Sorry, I may have been imprecise. I just don't think "if it's intelligent it has rights" is a useful step if nobody agrees on the first part. There are interesting questions (to me) I believe are lost in this. e.g. Is there a difference between something being intelligent versus having intelligence? 220
Alex @aladenrex.eldritch.buzz · 23/05/2026My reading of Tommaso's post was that it challenged the "intelligence = rights" framing and responded to the "tantamount to slavery" claim by providing an example where we expect rights regardless of intelligence. 200
Alex @aladenrex.eldritch.buzz · 23/05/2026"has intelligence of any sort, then it has rights" This is not a widely accepted equivalence and also...not really relevant to the discussion of how intelligence is defined. I suppose we can all agree to disagree about what should get to use that term, fine. Plenty of things have bad names. 230
