boy Trump fucked the American auto industry. first he yanks their EV subsidies, leading them to slash production and write off tens of billions in investment, then he jacks up the price of oil by 50%, leading to skyrocketing EV demand going almost entirely to China bc GM et al left the market

This should set off a siren in every defence ministry in Europe: there needs to be much more urgency about developing autonomous capabilities, not subject to US caprices, for early warning of attacks, countering ballistic missiles, communicating with forces or controlling offensive weapons.

It's really hard to say "The richest man in the world is constantly calling for a race war as he almost singularly sponsors the Republican Party and millions will die because of his brief tenure in government, where he likely looted private data from all Americans." But we're getting closer.

In the communist Eastern Bloc this was known as "the war between the fridge and the TV". On TV everything is great - victory after victory, success after success, abundance for everyone. But the fridge keeps getting emptier. And at some point the fridge starts winning.

The signal feature of 🇺🇸 politics in my adult lifetime has been the glaring divide b/w competently staffed administrations & Congresses that try to actually govern when Dems are in office, & corrupt/criminal ideological kakistocrats when the GOP is. News coverage simply does not reflect that feature.

Former “free speech” crusaders have ushered in an unprecedented campaign of censorship in Texas universities, resulting in pulitzer winning books being banned, medical and scientific facts being suppressed, and entire fields of study deemed “woke” being eliminated www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...
Over the past decade, some conservatives have invoked principles of academic freedom and free speech in order to subvert both. These conservatives mocked “snowflakes” and “trigger warnings,” and then passed legislation making it illegal to hurt white students’ feelings by discussing historical or contemporary events. They invoked academic freedom and then began erasing fields of study they found politically inconvenient. They railed against “indoctrination,” and then argued that the state is entitled to control everything said in the classroom.

Why are so many Americans in positions of authority like naive children? Where’ve you been the last two years? Last decade, really? How do you not recognize bad faith, especially when you see it repeatedly? Or did you recognize it but give them benefit of the doubt anyway? Why would you do that?

“I have done everything humanly possible to give the government the benefit of the doubt in this case. I have done it repeatedly.” Why would you do that, judge? Did you think they deserve it on the merits? Did you expect that to get them to respect adverse rulings rather than take it as permission?
