Open Socials Social Club
During DDW 2026, Waag is organising a very social party – both online and offline. We’re launching oso.social, a platform that gives everyone access to open social media. Everyone’s welcome; you don’t need to buy a ticket, just create an account on the open social web. The time has come to leave big tech’s social media behind. The time has come to leave big tech’s social media behind. We’ve had enough of toxic content, addictive algorithms, AI slop, and fake news. Online connection should serve us—not the profits of shareholders. That is why Waag is working toward a societal breakthrough: for Dutch society, in close collaboration with Europe, to embrace the open social web. Together with various sectors, we are building open social platforms where we, as a society, set the rules ourselves. At the Open Socials Social Club, we’ll be networking to our hearts’ content, casting our lines far and wide, bringing people together and making connections. With performances by Striptopia, Zobayda, Pelanoir, Gioray, Alles Exploding and more! Dutch Design Week Dutch Design Week (DDW) is annual event showcasing the best of Dutch design. DDW organises and facilitates exhibitions, lectures, award ceremonies, networking events, debates and festivities spread across a hundred locations throughout the city of Eindhoven. Dutch Design Week 2026 will take place from 187 to 25 October.

How to make Ursula join your socials

How did W Social, the new European social network, get the Commission president to join – and effectively endorse – it just months after its launch? W Social’s selling points are its built-in ID verification system and a strict “no bots” policy. According to documents we obtained, its founders pushed the Commission hard in lobby meetings.

And just like that, von der Leyen was on board, according to an internal memo. Yet, why W Social made the cut – while more established and comparable European decentralised networks such as Mastodon didn’t – is unclear from the files.

We need more walkable, mixed-use datacenters. Like community gardens, people should be able to experience the joy and satisfaction of cultivating their own hardware. when we mourn le guin, we mourn one of our greatest writers & thinkers. but we also mourn one of our all-time greatest haters
All you do is take all the sex out, and use little short words, and little dumb ideas, and don't be too scary, and be sure there's a happy ending. Right? Nothing to it. Write down. Right on.

If you do all that, you might even write Jonathan Livingston Seagull and make twenty billion dollars and have every adult in America reading your book.

But you won't have every kid in America reading your book. They will look at it, and they will see straight through it, with their clear, cold, beady little eyes, and they will put it down, and they will go away. Kids will devour vast amounts of garbage (and it is good for them) but they are not like adults: they have not yet learned to eat plastic.

• Keeping women's prisons for women, instructing the Scottish Prison Service to remove all biologically male prisoners from women's prisons within days of the election.

Just so its clear: data centres are not "critical infrastructure". They are Mystery Factories that can perform inscrutable computation for any digital output, from crypto scams to child abuse material to hospital databases. The broad label just becomes a wide door for harm to run through.
Data centres are critical infrastructure powering the modern digital economy. With the right policy settings and renewable generation, Australia can position itself as a leader in clean digital infrastructure - creating jobs, improving grid resilience, and driving innovation across the energy system.
