Anstatt die Plattformen staerker in Haftung zu nehmen, wird nun viel auf Eltern und alle(!) User abgewaelzt und es werden erneut ordentlich persoenliche Daten gesammelt. Alles unter dem Deckmantel des Schutzes der Kinder. Ich weiss nicht.. aber ich hab da kein gutes Gefuehl! #SOTU

UvL announced a tech alliance between the EU & Canada. #SOTEU2026 BUT: civil societies needs to be included in such an initative. Open source communities of Canada & Europe have much knowhow to contribute and need to be heard. Only so we can achieve real digital sovereignty - for all humans.

Mixed feelings about the WSocial × Streamplace coalition. This isn't open, collectively owned infra for Europeans. It's the European Commission itself broadcasting into the Atmosphere. Mandatory government ID for that isn't congruent with indiesky, and I'm not sure yet about their political agenda.

How to make Ursula join your socials

How did W Social, the new European social network, get the Commission president to join – and effectively endorse – it just months after its launch? W Social’s selling points are its built-in ID verification system and a strict “no bots” policy. According to documents we obtained, its founders pushed the Commission hard in lobby meetings.

And just like that, von der Leyen was on board, according to an internal memo. Yet, why W Social made the cut – while more established and comparable European decentralised networks such as Mastodon didn’t – is unclear from the files.
