It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better

Buy a book. Any book, it doesn't matter which. The one you've been looking forward to, the one with the title that made you laugh, the weighty award-winner you've been meaning to get to. Whatever. Treat yourself. Step away from it all. In this time of gross ignorance & madness, read something.

More than 3,300 years ago, an unknown Egyptian wrote a love poem: clear, pure, mysterious. This translation by Egyptologist John Foster brings it to life in a way that leaves me breathless.
Love, how I’d love to slip down to the pond,
Bathe with you close by on the bank.
Just for you I’d wear my new Memphis swimsuit,
Made of sheer linen, fit for a queen—
Come see how it looks in the water!

Couldn’t I coax you to wade in with me?
Let the cool creep slowly around us?
Then I’d dive deep down
And come up for you dripping,
Let you fill your eyes
With the little red fish that I’d catch.

(John Foster, Ancient Egyptian Literature, 2001; p. 23.)

i don't really have the emotional bandwidth to engage with this right now so i'm just going to say that we don't have to put up with this as a society. if the rules don't let us make it illegal, we can change the rules. this should not exist.

My 8-year-old made their own version of the game Life, and it's way more accurate than the original. The path is convoluted. The rules change on a whim (but always in favor of the game's creator). The real estate is outlandishly expensive. The jobs pay either $9K or $999,999K. The goal is unclear.

I've had a bestseller before. I've also written books that are fully me doing my own thing. But I just realised this will be a first: a book that's fully me doing my own thing AND is being published by a publisher who doesn't piss around, pays its authors and prioritises getting books into shops.
