There are so many people, so many, that love film and want to dedicate their whole lives to making films, in front of the camera, behind it, in editing suites and casting rooms and makeup trailers. And that these locusts can come in and just devour the industry, take it from us all, is devastating.

I feel like we don’t talk about millennials in particular, hitting our 40s - in earlier generations many of us would be reaching the peak of our careers, but because of disaster after disaster, locust after locust eating our industries, many of us are on our 3rd or 4th fresh start.

Maturity is resisting the urge for a gotcha about the comments regarding Barnes and Wright, and recognising that instead she’s said something that is necessary to be said, and this is a first step to recalibrating the conversation away from ethno-nationalism.

It’s very welcome to see a prominent British Tory defending what has for decades been the consensus view of English identity, viz that it’s not your colour or background but your participation. It’s important for the democratic right to be defending this view against attacks from the crazies

"Zionism" arose to mean something very specific, politically and historically. Academically, we can obviously argue about the meaning and the scope of Zionism. But politically, it's possible that right now it obscures more than it illuminates: it's good to ask what the term is doing in any sentence.

It's funny listening to the Dukes of Stratosphear stuff because no matter how obviously and successfully it's pastiching 60s records (and it really does so *extremely* well), you listen now and just think "yep, that's an eighties neo-psychedelia album". It *screams* eighties.

From a historical perspective it's a genuinely strange state of affairs that the Church of England turns out to be too woke for much of the modern right. But really it just feels like: having a consistent moral code that demands taking Lessers and Outgroup seriously is impossible for populist right.

I keep saying SNL UK is better than the original and I get that the show was always hit or miss but my issue with SNL for the past decade or so has been the preponderance of what can only be described as “audience of one” sketches. Like, they are very clearly gunning for Wanda from HR

AP Stylebook warns against anthropomorphizing AI systems: “Avoid language that gives them human characteristics… Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.”
APStylebook @APStylebook

Artificial intelligence systems do not think, feel, want or understand. Avoid language that gives them human characteristics. This is called anthropomorphizing, when we ascribe human traits, emotions or behaviors to non-human things, such as animals or inanimate objects.
Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.
