Not really sure. I think the setting has sequel potential, but the characters and the ending I have in mind don’t really make much sense for a sequel. I just want to finish the dagblasted thing before worrying about sequels. #firstdraftfall #weeknightwriters

#firstdraftfall #weeknightwriters I struggle a lot with this, literary sci-fi with some horror overtones? (I hate using literary as a modifier), people have suggested bio-punk, upmarket, and slipstream previously.

I’m trying to hit the balance between slice of life and dystopia without falling into full on stereotype dystopian fiction. The young heroes aren’t saving the world, your “heroes” are a broken-down dogman ex-convict and a depressed, chain smoking bureaucrat. Novel length I hope. #firstdraftfall

Hi I’m Andrew. I‘ve been working on a sci fi noir with messy half-human love story, overworked social workers turned Deathwish avengers, demented meat computers, and rust belt retrofuturism. My week has been a train wreck, but I did creep up to 12k three days ago #weeknightwriters #firstdraftfall

#Sffchat The scariest thing I ever wrote was a non human entity that consumes realms. “The Void”. For one brief instance in Thawing the Line we slip into the POV of the void as it consumes a realm from the outside in, like chomping down an apple.

I still think the scariest thing I’ve ever written (to me when I was writing it) was a very poorly proofread story I wrote in high school where a kid pees on an figurine of the devil and then is stung to death by a hoard of invisible bees. Still chasing that objectively terrible dragon. #sffchat

#SFFChat It's an area where spec fic gets to spread its wings. Show off. We don't just deal in piddling metaphors, we can make the nightmares real. There's probably a serious answer to this question but my brain is just going ball pool! ball pool! How weird can we make something?!

Horror exposes you to, and makes you sit with, discomfort. It makes you confront those things within yourself, and see those things in your society around you, so you're better able to identify and combat it. Horror sets the stage, and the monstrous gives it a face. #SFFChat

#SFFChat I've heard the argument that horror is a mood rather than a genre. I'm not sure I agree, but it's perhaps a useful lens through which to view it's role in SFF. Rather like seasoning, it will enhance flavours if applied sensitively.

Hi, I'm Fen! I write horror mostly, with a healthy dose of fantasy thrown in for good measure. My favourite monster (and movie) is the Xenomorph from Alien; I love the design of it, how you can almost see how something like that would evolve, and the original movie nailed the horror, too! #SFFChat
