Can’t eat a sandwich until you subscribe to sandwiches. Can’t eat today’s sandwich until it has applied daily sandwich updates. Sandwich now has adverts even though you paid for ad-free sandwich. Can pay again to have less sandwich adverts. Now you can eat the sandwich, but it’s smaller.

I have never understood and never will understand why interrupting someone while I'm reading to chat (not say something important or informative, just chat) isn't considered rude, but telling the interrupter "I'm reading and don't want to talk right now" is.

The uses of Sorrow - Mary Oliver

Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness

It took me years to understand that this, too, was a gift.

My way of dealing with the demoralizing publishing industry has become to ignore everything and go write. Do not think about the outcome. Enjoy the trees and plants, do volunteer work and speak up when you can, spend time with people who love you and write, edit, revise, send it out. REPEAT.
