One time I was in the psych ward and a doctor asked me if I was hearing voices and I said "I don't think so, all I hear is you but I don't know for sure if you're real or not". Fortunately she had a sense of humor about it.

My brother has been a fantastic support and ally to me, perhaps most when he told me that people ask him super invasive medical questions about me and he was like "I don't know how you do it". I appreciated it but also genuinely fascinating for a cis person to see a little of what we experience.

I agree with this -- I went to a fancy private school and in many ways it gave me a very limited view of the world and I think also tarnished my humanity. I wasn't the worst person in the world but I had so, so much to unlearn and I definitely caused harm/did damage in the process and it's not okay.

This is so true in DC -- many years ago I did some student teaching at a school in a very white, very wealthy part of the city and many many parents clearly viewed it basically as a subsidized private school; the city paid for the basics and the PTA raised so much fucking money they had extra staff

Apologies if I'm a broken record but for both this militarized arch(?) and the Kennedy Center, these are not just abstract Bad Things; for people in the DC area, which is under occupation, these affect people directly. DC is a very Black city and it is being punished by the federal government.

One thing that bothers me about the undeserved reputation trans people have for being mean and scary and impossible to satisfy is that when I see a politician do something positive for trans people I also see a lot of trans people expressing gratitude. We give people credit when they earn it!
