my candidate, Callee Ackland, did not go through Emerge, which until the various Oregon DSA chapters started growing and developing their own infrastructure, was the only path into Democratic Party politics for women in Oregon. wow has it been noticeable in how she's been treated even by 'allies'

to be clear, there's nothing particularly nefarious about Emerge Oregon - but it tends to take in women of a certain background and prepare them to run for office in certain ways. and more importantly, if you *aren't* Emerge, you aren't considered credible or trusted.

after I first started doing politics in Oregon, someone pointed out the many faux-progressive (mostly white) female Dems in state and local politics. then we saw an ostensible progressive close ranks against a DSA challenger for a self-described moderate. that's when I found out about Emerge.

Oregon is probably the most likely US state to embrace Doug Ford Politics, a multiracial coalition of chip-on-shoulder suburbanites who treat bike lanes as a personal injury and rural crazies and are pro suburbanite cops making Portland and Salem suffer.

Oregon is a machine politics state that is known best for its (generally ineffective and provocative) activists and radicals. I'm still not entirely sure how this happened, honestly, but if progressives and socialists want to win they have to internalize that and build alternatives.

I think it’s unconscionable that we are willing to move heaven and earth to find money for stadiums, but seemingly incapable of doing the same to prevent the closure of schools. My constituents are outraged. They are right to be. There’s still time to fix this, but we’re going to need to lock in.

I'm fully of the opinion that while every politician in the PNW wants to promise high-speed rail for votes, absolutely none of them want to actually make the hard fiscal and political decisions to get the project constructed, for they will never reap the political rewards.
