I'm in favor of "y'all" in general usage. I spent much of my life in the South, but the reason I like the term is because it's gender neutral in the most cheerful way. You can call anyone "y'all," and it's fine. It's welcoming. It's a terrific pronoun and no one should gatekeep it.
