If you were to ask CEOs more broadly who has the hardest job at the company, I wonder if any would have the humility to say it wasn't them.

Waxed poetic about that Lanterns show and how its lowest-rated episode had the most to say about a bullshit aspirational platitude.
Black excellence is a term coined, lamentably, during the Barack Obama presidency. It’s meant to celebrate the Herculean efforts Black people make to succeed despite systemic and social barriers like racism, bigotry, and all manner of invisible tripwires that make success harder. Become a billionaire like Beyoncé and Jay-Z? Black excellence. Become president? Black excellence. Become a Lantern? Honey, you just might be a Black Hal Jordan in the making. But every time I hear the phrase, my teeth itch. To me, “Black excellence” lives in the same area code as white people calling a Black man “King” as a compliment—well-intentioned, maybe, but pandering as hell.

My issue isn’t the term itself but the mindset behind it. The idea that Black people must be excellent to be worthy of celebration, status, or privilege. That mediocrity is unacceptable. That you must be exceptional on whatever sliding scale the moment demands, doing twice the work for half the validation. Black excellence is almost never self‑defined—it’s projected onto you, shaped by other people’s expectations rather than your own. It's a prison where your only solace is toxic gratitude for platitudes over self-affirmation. Having John reject that fool’s errand plight as the main hero of a primetime DC Studios series means more to me than any roadmap superhero timeline.

Jimmy Olsen is a guy who is always getting into Situations, and those Situations can often be romantic. #ngl
Is the joke that Jimmy Olsen is magically attractive in the newest Superman movie something based in the comics or just a joke in the movie?

Well, I'm not sure the actor in the new Superman movie is supposed to be read as all that hunky. He was in Arrowverse though.

I thought this was just beautiful. Kurt Vonnegut takes a walk to mail a letter:
She calls out, “Where are you going?” And I say, “I am going out to get an envelope.” And she says, “Well, you’re not a poor man. Why don’t you buy a thousand envelopes? They’ll deliver them, and you can put them in a closet.” And I say, “Hush.”

I go next to the postal convenience center down the block at the corner of 47th Street and Second Avenue. The woman behind the counter says, “Thirty-nine cents for a stamp.” I say, “I only brought thirty-seven. When did that change?” She looked at me a long time. “Thirty-seven isn’t enough.” “Well that oughta be enough for one envelope,” I said. The line was getting longer.

The lady moved her hand into her coat. I knew this routine. I backflipped behind the man behind me in line, wrapping my elbow around his throat as I landed. By the time the stamp seller had unloaded her clip, I had full cover. The gentleman’s body dropped to the floor, six holes smoking. The package he was carrying fell to the floor with a heavy clunk. Whatever was in there, it would do.

I rolled my foot over the cardboard and did a “flick up” as they call it in soccer. I bounced the package once or twice on the back of my foot as the mail lady reloaded, then I launched it high and spun 360 to deliver my patented “Rising Phoenix kick”. The package caught fire as it shattered through the protective plexiglass window and struck the woman’s head with all the force and hatred I had learned to channel in my grueling tutelage under five fallen Wudang masters in my youth. The lady’s body exploded off of her bones, leaving just a blackened skeleton spinning in her office chair. “So it goes,” I said, but no one laughed. I guess they weren’t big readers.

And I go home. And I have had one hell of a good time.

We are dancing animals. How beautiful it is to get up and go out and do something. We are here on Earth to fart around. Don’t let anybody tell you any different.

Maybe Spock, Data, Tuvok, maybe 7 of 9, but funny enough not the Doctor. I'm having a hard time thinking of a DC character who could. For one second I thought Alfred, but no.

Mainstream Respectable opinion is that people joking about a bad person's death represents a culture of cruelty, but really it represents a culture of impunity. It's a coping mechanism for watching someone do evil their whole life and never seeing consequences

Yes, Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel were huge movies. And, another thing I'll give you, a lot of the female fronted superhero movies released after were underwhelming. SG is a significantly better outing and the 1 star reviews are suspicious to me. I did say it's flawed though, so I can't disprove

Big facts. It's so, so awful but I love it kind of because of that. Animalities were like the dumbest idea to focus on and they did not have the budget for them, and it's incredible

Flaws: It's not as good as the comic. The villain is either given too much or little screentime. Lobo actively weakens the picture with events becoming more powerful if he's not involved HOWEVER the main arcs are strong and there's a good movie there. Misogyny I think is a big factor in the backlash

Like anything he does would be made stronger by the girls just doing it. I can understand why this movie got mixed reviews and with just a few more cuts I think it's an easy green on Metacritic. I still enjoyed it overall, I think and would love to see Kara again.

1000 Waluigis @1000waluigis.bsky.social · 29/06/2026
I'm an easy cry, but it got me several times. The problems are the villain either received too much or little focus and that Lobo is in it at all. I've never liked Lobo much in the comics, but here he's an actual hindrance to the development of the characters we actually care about.

I forgot to write about #Supergirl which I saw yesterday. It could have been a really good movie instead of a kinda good movie. I'm biased because I fucking love Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but everything in this movie that involved the two leads really works.

One who gets a truly interesting scene out of it. MVP of the movie, for me, by the way. I sincerely wish it could be the therapist, but she's utterly underdeveloped. Even her contribution to the plot is kinda just ignored at the end. Don't really recommend it, but it is short and competent.

The polygraph scene is set up very early and the camera and editing disappoints for the amount of buildup it has. They tried the camera looking up sometimes to make the questioned feel powerful but it doesn't work. Could have salvaged the movie for me honestly, but the satellite worker is the only

The actual actions of the story don't go along with this. It's also obvious who did it once the camera starts to follow Blanchett, because it's going to be the next most famous people. If the structure of the movie gave us a more motivated camera I think we have less of this problem.
