*incredibly ugly wheezing sound* Jee-sus christ theplaylist.net/paul-schrade...

But speaking this weekend with The Playlist in Venice following the premiere of “The Basics of Philosophy,” Schrader offered a much more revealing explanation for how “Three Guns At Dawn” reached that point.

“I had originally written it about three Black brothers, all of whom are bad guys: a corrupt cop, a drug dealer, and a sexual criminal,” Schrader explained. “And they were all trying to kill each other. And Antoine Fuqua was going to produce it.”

According to Schrader, he and Fuqua then approached actors with the project and ran into a fundamental problem.

“We sent it out to actors, and no Black actors wanted to play in a movie where there are no good Black people,” he said. “And it sort of died. But then AI came along, and I didn’t need Black actors.”

How having a disability became cool
Young women, nicknamed ‘sickfluencers’, are turning chronic illness into a lifestyle trend and entrenching a culture of economic inactivity

Young women are also more likely to get caught up in “social contagion” – the spontaneous spread of behaviours or emotions previously observed by sociologists in “outbreaks” of bulimia, self-harm and transgender ideology. What may have otherwise been transitory feelings are seized upon and obsessed over until they form a central pillar of a person’s identity. A chronic-illness influencer won’t want to get “better” any more than a female-bodied transgender person would want to re-identify with their sex.

the $400 billion figure is the amount that China theoretically agreed to in 2021 over a 25 year period. the amount *actually* spent so far is something like $3 billion, we think, or roughly a third of the direct cost of the Iran war to the U.S. so far.

OpenAI posted the terms of the deal. Reveals that it absolutely does allow for domestic surveillance. EO 12333 is how the NSA hides its domestic surveillance by capturing communications by tapping into lines *outside the US* even if it contains info from/on US persons. openai.com/index/our-ag...

2. Our contract. Here is the relevant language:

The Department of War may use the AI System for all lawful purposes, consistent with applicable law, operational requirements, and well-established safety and oversight protocols. The AI System will not be used to independently direct autonomous weapons in any case where law, regulation, or Department policy requires human control, nor will it be used to assume other high-stakes decisions that require approval by a human decisionmaker under the same authorities. Per DoD Directive 3000.09 (dtd 25 January 2023), any use of AI in autonomous and semi-autonomous systems must undergo rigorous verification, validation, and testing to ensure they perform as intended in realistic environments before deployment.

For intelligence activities, any handling of private information will comply with the Fourth Amendment, the National Security Act of 1947 and the Foreign Intelligence and Surveillance Act of 1978, Executive Order 12333, and applicable DoD directives requiring a defined foreign intelligence purpose. The AI System shall not be used for unconstrained monitoring of U.S. persons’ private information as consistent with these authorities. The system shall also not be used for domestic law-enforcement activities except as permitted by the Posse Comitatus Act and other applicable law.

Panel 2: Red Guy says, “Will it work?”

Panel 3: Wider shot with a view of a whiteboard in front of Red Guy. There is a miserable unshaven Purple Guy standing next to the board. He says “It has to”

Black and white comic with stick figures

Panel 1:
Three stick figures that can only be told apart by their hair. Megan (short dark hair) walks in walks in from the left, looking down at her phone, Cueball (no hair) and Ponytail (light-haired ponytail) are standing next to each other.
Megan: Wow - according to the internet, we don't know the true name of the bear.
Cueball: What?

Panel 2:
Gretchen McCulloch, drawn as a stick figure with short, dark, curly hair, comes on-panel from the right.
Megan: Apparently there was a superstition that saying its name would summon it. "Bear" and "bruin" mean "the brown one." Its actual name has been lost.
Cueball: Wow.
Ponytail: Gretchen, is this for real?

Panel 3:
Zoom-in on Gretchen.
Gretchen: Well, sort of
Gretchen: The Proto-Indo-European root was *rkto-
Gretchen: It was lost in the Germanic languages like English, but survived elsewhere, e.g. Greek "arktos" and Latin "ursus"

Panel 4:
Back to the second panel, with Megan holding her phone down, Ponytail with her hands in the air, and Gretchen with her hand on her chin.
Megan: So could we figure out what the word would have been in English?
Gretchen: Hmm. I mean, we'll never know, but given Germanic sound shifts, a reasonable guess might be "arth"?
Ponytail: No!!

Panel 5:
The panel zooms in again to Gretchen.
Ponytail (off-panel): Stop! AAAAA!
Gretchen: What??
Ponytail (off-panel): Don't say it!

Panel 6:
Ponytail is holding her palms out. Megan is no longer in the panel.
Ponytail: What have you done?
Off-panel noise: ROAR (with a wavy speech balloon around it)
Gretchen: Oh
Gretchen: Oh no
