I’ve seen this kind of thing. There’s an entire class of jobs designed to discipline workers for compliance. But when corruption and corporate capture is the only ruling logic in an institution, there is nothing to comply with. Those jobs have to churn out nonsense webinars to pantomime a job.

Yes. I saw it with Lower Ed. Similar to challenging any orthodoxy, especially when you’re vulnerable to its collapse. You won’t convince them this is bankrupt. We who can live with the ambiguity of post austerity have to build better incentives for them, without them — and despite them. Sigh.

a little louder for the cheap seats in the back
One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.

A real successful 1A day here on campus. Heavy hitters. Big student turnout. Engaged questions. My notes for the academic freedom panel is a sort of Cliff Notes of how I approach this thing. This is it. My whole talk.
Notes app reads: Neoliberalism weaponizes bias to justify austerity. Austerity creates corporate universities. Corporate universities are unhealthy organizations. Unhealthy organizations cannot inculcate or defend academic freedom. Without academic freedom to check administrative power, corporate universities will translate austerity into financialized predation. Predation undermines public trust in higher education. Death spiral accelerates.

One thing I want men to think about with the Cornell 7 is how normal all these men look. They don't look like creeps. They don't look like perverts. They don't look like they would jump out of the bushes and attack someone. They look like 100% normal guys.
