If it was discovered that I ran a company that used a team of photoshoppers working remotely from North Korea to generate on-demand sexualized images of women without their consent, including minors, which I then posted live on Twitter, I do not think the response from authorities would be silence.

I do think you basically charge a few of them with the cybercrimes they're committing and the "alignment" problem does suddenly start to disappear.

Smartphones are cool and dandy and I can't live without them, but the dumb cell phone was arguably the real revolution. The async nature of life we had before now seems utterly terrifying.

I’m somewhat tilted toward open source AI on principle. That said, David Sacks has come out in favor of it which is challenging because another one of my principles is that David Sacks is an evil idiot. The vicissitudes of ethics in our modern era.

We are leaving the Old Code Age, the Paleocodic, the artisinal code era, where if you needed a novel program, you would commission a local codesmith or code guild to hand-craft a work of code for you, bespoke.

some amazing things happening over on threads — ever since they “shut down CERN”
CERN has to be real. Why do the days magically feel longer again? I keep looking at the clock in disbelief.Honestly... I can feel the immediate difference with CERN turning off. It's like turning off the annoying big light in the house that's been on for last 4 years. It's like finally getting some quiet after being immersed in a screaming heavy death metal concert or rave for days and days. It's like there's no restrictions. No hindrances. No more delays. I feel free. They turned off CERN and now the days feel twice as long. I'm TIREDCall me crazy, whatever ya whatever you want but since CERN shut down their machine time IS slower (i saw somewhere that our minutes are actually 60 seconds long again after being 45 seconds since COVID, ive had a mild frontal headache for 2 days and just had this weird energy around me. I can't be the only one, right?!

Not a great economy alert! Wall Street Bets users think Palantir spiked today because The Onion story titled “Palantir Acquires Pentagon for $800 Billion” hit their front page. They’re guessing trading bots indexed the top post on the subreddit reddit not understanding source.

Talked with a few folks inside of AI labs (OpenAI, Anthropic) about what they think of the future of software engineering. The “closer” to shipping production code engineers are, the less they believe software engineering will be “solved” fully by AI. The opposite true as well

I really need people to understand that Palantir is not an engineering marvel; it is a multi-billion-dollar contractual containment layer wrapped around the world's ugliest legacy open source frankenstack. It's a shitty Snowflake for companies that don't know how to do data engineering.

Impressive, but I still think Google will eventually dominate the market. The financials of both OpenAI and Anthropic won't be sustainable once the bubble pops.

Ive said for more than a year that it might be better for Europe if the US left NATO. The US is now bullying and unreliable and would probably not fight for Europe against Putin anyway. Better for Europe to move on, especially with Ukraine a key anchor of its future security

"Amodei pretty much follows Sam Altman’s playbook, of constant hype and overpromising" Musk normalized hype-as-a-business in tech and got extremely well rewarded for it, so we can't be surprised others are following the playbook. What I don't get is why so many people still fall for it.
