Travis @coloradotravis.bsky.social · 20hThe most surprising thing about agents so far is that there is absolutely a way to permanently use 100% capacity on every piece of metal I have for making the agent better/faster/more capable. CPU, memory, storage, all of it. Really trippy. 160
Travis @coloradotravis.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I’ve spent weeks tuning cache hit rates, which I recommend doing if you’re running a custom agent setup. Many of the posts I see complaining about cost (Fable etc) are, I suspect, caching struggles. Given model pricing structures, 94%—> 98% cache hit rate massively drops your costs. 3130

Travis @coloradotravis.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Dario’s “a swarm of AI could take over the internet” sounds dramatic but something nearby that is probably my base case, independent of how the slowdown vibes play out. If I had to guess I’d say the internet gets challenging to be on (for infosec reasons) and balkanizes. 4220
Travis @coloradotravis.bsky.social · 10/09/2026One of the things about vibe <coding, other stuff> is that the workflow is very different which I think creates a lot of confusion. It’s a workshop for empiricists, and I think that looks kind of messy when we’re used to computers being a domain governed by formalism. What does that mean? 4282
Travis @coloradotravis.bsky.social · 09/09/2026Philosopher here. Uh… so it actually did. Worth looking into the “Four Color Theorem” as an early example of this, because this is as incorrect as it is confident. Perhaps there’s a psychology term for that. Oh wait no… there was, but that study is part of the replication crisis in psychology. 615411
Travis @coloradotravis.bsky.social · 09/09/2026I find it tedious to discuss conservativism as a political phenomenon because my take is that it's mostly a cognitive one. Conservativism is just a bag full of whatever positions are easiest to hold. The old ones, the entrenched, the ones that prevent a need for self-inquiry. The way dad did it. 4305
Travis @coloradotravis.bsky.social · 08/09/2026A sign liberal arts degrees have been weakened into a sort of rigorless soup more than anything else. Travis @coloradotravis.bsky.social · 05/09/2026I think centering models in AI discussions is odd. The way I see the topology, using AI is about defining cognitive processes (like research, coding, whatever) so that you have a canonical *methodology.* Then you plug in a model. Models fill a defined methodology to different degrees. 1110
Travis @coloradotravis.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Astra is the first model where I’ve noticed a sort of baked in rigor. Pretty interesting. The rigor isn’t free, like it’s decidedly less creative than something like Sol or K3 (design evals seem to support this) but I’m fascinated by it and think it’s really useful. 1111
Travis @coloradotravis.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Frontier models are at a point where evaluating them is sort of like figuring out if some college professor is good. You can read reviews and whatever but the best thing to do is just go to one of the classes and get a sense of it. 0470
Travis @coloradotravis.bsky.social · 03/09/2026A lot of my favorite AI stuff is just taking some mundane thing that's kind of annoying (like browsing a very noisy internet), doing research on how do to that properly, then building a methodology based on what comes back. 0120
