Genuinely feels insane to have to say things like "live streaming a public execution is a horrific and bad idea for more reasons than I can list" because like why would you need to say that? Everyone knows it's a terrible idea and no one would ever do that, right?

I did know she was, and I saw a video on her socials a few days ago announcing that she wouldn't be travelling, because her baby is imminently arriving. She said her team are still working away though, so you could still email and ask. She encouraged people to keep mailing, asking, etc.

My PC is named Hamilton, after Margaret Hamilton, and following my tradition of baking my devices after pioneering women in science. A Lego model of her is inside the case. Rest in power Margaret.

Gah! Of course it is, I am not with it yet this morning 🙈😂 However I will say that the audiobook really is especially good and I think worth a listen even if you've read the book itself. If you wind up with a spare credit after new recs, you could do worse than picking it up.

Have you read Project Hail Mary? I think the audiobook might be one of the best narrations I've ever encountered.

Are you doing essential 'wife work' at your job without getting promoted? In The Irish Times, Dr Sabrina Fitzsimons of DCU Institute of Education, highlights how women perform invisible labour, like mentoring and supporting colleagues, that goes unrewarded. Read more: launch.dcu.ie/4j3IBpv

I spent 140 quid on it and by December last year the same ram was 800-1200 euro if you could even get it in stock anywhere. I genuinely can't get over how much more expensive it would have been to build my pc if I had waited just 6 months longer to buy the parts.
020
Jen Keane @zenbuffy.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The price of ram is absolutely insane. I bought and built my pc in July last year and I "splurged" by spending an extra 20 quid or so to get white ram, so it would match the rest of my components. That same ram would now cost almost as much as the whole pc build back then.

So they can update the website to protect (predominantly male) board members and senior leaders. But they can't update the site to fulfil their legal obligation to report on their gender pay gap.

It's rare that I have the energy to do two bakes for one week, but I somehow found it this week. Dark and milk chocolate chip hazelnut cookies, sprinkled with sea salt. And then some iced gems (ahem, iced Jens) for good measure. Vanilla, raspberry, and forest fruits flavours in the icing. #gbbo

Too many people think that we got the job done when we repealed the 8th, but that was just the start. It's convenient for the government that you think it's all solved. It's not. We need your attention, your support, your voice. We are still fighting for free, safe, legal, and local abortions here.

The 3 day wait shouldn't have been put in in the first place, and it's long past time that it was removed. People are still leaving this country to access the care that we voted for. Abortion is healthcare, and it should be free, safe, legal, and local. #repeal

Now, so many years on, I know tons of people involved in the advocacy space in Ireland. So much so that I actually have to decide who to try and find to march with. And I'll definitely not make it through without meeting folks I know. And every one of those people is a 10/10 excellent person.

I despair at the headlines that report anything he says seriously. What a waste of print. And I despair for the damage he has done. For the lives ruined. The hate stoked. The fear built. He's not secretly clever, and his apologists are apologising for the wrong thing.

Like many women, I have great pattern recognition when it comes to spotting bad guys. We've all had too much personal experience with it to not be. I knew who trump was before he stepped foot in the office. So many of us did. And on day one, men were lining up to make excuses for him.

I remember the day of the election result the first time he won. I was in work. I was deeply sad. Several men suggested to me that he was actually secretly very clever and his behaviour was just an act. I think about that moment often.

Having women fully participate in the workforce and be represented in government is an absolute necessity if we want to solve this problem. The lack of both of these things will continue to exacerbate this issue until our systems collapse under the weight of people they can't care for.

And ok, let's get into the nitty gritty of auto enrollment. It only affects those earning more than 20000 a year. Do you know who often earns less than that? You guessed it, it's women who are working part-time or inconsistent hours due to care responsibilities!

If we are worried that the state can't provide for an aging population, then we need to genuinely enable our younger population to be able to save for their own futures. Raising minimum wages. Strengthening workers rights. Paying maternity and parental leave. The lot.

It's all well and good to auto-enroll people into a pension, but that only affects people who are working (let's not get into the nitty gritty of thresholds and whatnot). As it is predominantly women who exit the workforce, this won't solve the problem for us.
1111
Jen Keane @zenbuffy.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
All this points to a big part of the solution - if you stop women exiting the workforce, women can be better financially prepared for retirement, including things like covering costs for their own care should they need it.
1110
Jen Keane @zenbuffy.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
When women step out of the labour force to do these things, they economically disadvantage themselves. We live longer, on smaller pensions, and we are twice as likely to be dependent on state aid in our retirement. Our state pensions are also smaller than men's.
1133
Jen Keane @zenbuffy.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
We don't incentivise or enable our young people to stay here, nor people to become parents, and that leaves fewer younger people to care for an aging population. We expect women to care for their elderly relatives for free, and we underpay and undervalue those who choose to care as a profession.
1163
Jen Keane @zenbuffy.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Ireland, like most countries, punishes women financially for having children, does not value care work or pay for it appropriately, and has an economy that depends on the unpaid care work of women. We are fundamentally unprepared for an aging population with fewer young folks around.
