If you go and watch Odin in Heart of the Beast please think long and hard before making the lifetime commitment of bringing a working line dog into your life. The shelters are full of 2 year old German Shepherds who went from cute puppies to big problems without any of the foundation training.

I didn't want to hijack Mari's post but it's essential that all of us, disabled and not, be in solidarity with comrades when they're excluded from spaces, especially at events at conference centers that should have access plans. Don't take a stage where people are excluded by inaccessibility.

I’ve seen a few articles on the last iron lung user passing away. Guess what most headlines leave out. She did not die from her polio complications. The cause is directly stated as long covid. She was living a relatively independent life, until she got long covid. This is who you’re hurting.

I think people underestimate how Disability Justice is oft overlooked. I think a lot about how anti-homeless architecture (people designing things inhumanely so that unhoused people do not sleep on it) is not just horrific to the unhoused, but also to those with mobility disabilities.

It’s International Long Covid Awareness Day. One of the best things you can do to support people with Long Covid is wear a mask (ideally a respirator like an N95). Masks break chains of transmission. They prevent infection. The only way to avoid Long Covid is to avoid Covid!

The world’s largest streaming company swallowing one of its biggest competitors is what antitrust laws were designed to prevent. The outcome would eliminate jobs, push down wages, worsen conditions for all entertainment workers, raise prices for consumers, and reduce the volume and diversity of content for all viewers. Industry workers along with the public are already impacted by only a few powerful companies maintaining tight control over what consumers can watch on television, on streaming, and in theaters. This merger must be blocked.

Hi everyone, it looks like I ran out of time. I have so many dreams that I wanted to fulfill and plans to create new stories for you. There are a few in progress that might come to fruition in a few years if things work out. I did not ever imagine I would live to this age and end up a writer, editor, activist, and more. As a kid riddled with insecurity and internalized ableism, I could not see a path forward. It was thanks to friendships and some great teachers who believed in me that I was able to fight my way out of miserable situations into a place where I finally felt comfortable in my skin.
We need more stories about us and our culture.
You all, we all, deserve the everything and more in such a hostile, ableist environment. Our wisdom is incisive and unflinching. I'm honored to be your ancestor and believe disabled oracles like us will light the way to the future. Don't let the bastards grind you down. I love you all.

PAs generally make minimum wage and have no union or organization to provide a safety net. Certainly all of the assistants are unlikely to have enough saved up to cope with a sudden cancellation or pause, nor could they line up a rescue gig.

Today is World #Lymphoma #Awareness Day. Our beautiful #dog Kaia developed GI lymphoma, and was quickly taken from us. We were forced to release her from her suffering just last week. Apparently unlike in humans, dog chemotherapy is only to ease suffering, it does not help reverse the disease.

Shows a <61 lbs dog (usually 73lbs) sick dog laying down, half on her dog bed, half on the rug on the faux wood vinyl floor.
Her leg and tummy are shaved a bit from a series of Internal Medicine exams to diagnose her.
It's hard to tell from the picture since she's laying down, but she's lost a lot of muscle mass and is very thin.
This picture is from 1 day before she was released from her mortal suffering, since she stopped eating and was in more and more lethargic and not doing great on average, even with a series of meds supporting her.
She was happy until the end, being stubborn and fighting on.
