RIP Dolly. I’ve been listening incessantly to the cover of “After the Gold Rush” she did with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris. That the immense technical skill she had as a vocalist was possible to overlook in light of her other gifts is a testament to her achievements. youtu.be/o2XcBL6kWn8?...

FUCK ICE is a winning message. And I don’t think many in the media realized how broad support for that message really is. Like, who did you think the Lutheran ladies holding clandestine no-phones ICE resistance and mutual aid meetings in church basements were gonna vote for???

Here’s a preview in City Pages by Terry Katzman, which also noted the Replacements were scheduled as the opener.

• Circle Jerks: Originally one of the fastest, funniest hardcore units from L.A., Circle Jerks' debut waxing Group Sex was an excursion into the absurdity of American culture. Their most recent of-fering, Wild In The Streets, leans dangerously close to stock heavy metal but live shows appear to be the group's forte. A band worth checking out. The Replace ments will open. Duffy's, 721-3301.

The film has absolutely spiked interest in HER translation, which is one of COUNTLESS. It's not an accident that Emily Wilson's translation and (in my experience, though I bet the numbers would bear this out) no one else's is the one people are looking for. I would argue Nolan should thank Wilson.

There is a lot to say about the Nolan Odyssey movie. But one point that I think has not been emphasized enough is: this is a film about living in LA, as Nolan, my erstwhile British compatriot and age mate, has done for years. I gather it’s a strange place.
