in case Irish people don't know the context, Stan Cullis played for and managed Wolverhampton Wanderers. in 1938 he objected to a proposed Nazi salute by 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 players before a game vs 🇩🇪 and was dropped from the side. he's a club legend at Wolves, the Stan Cullis Stand was where I sat last weekend

This is a complete distraction. Ireland cannot build a nuclear power plant fast enough to matter. Making a decision to do so would excuse punting on all the wind and solar things it can and must do. This is a lobby project of the tech industry to have something to say when building data centres.

Trans people are roughly as common as someone who has the same birthday as you. Imagine if all people with your birthday are to be banned from toilets, sports, affirming your birthday at school etc etc. it's so fucked up and hardly anyone with a different birthday is doing anything to stop it.

The worst I’ve been “owned” since Hugo did a number on me back on Twitter. Second-guessed every post I made for months afterwords
Hugo tweet evaluating a trite nature observation of mine:

“It's a shame to waste on Twitter what could become 850 gorgeous words on that Sunday Miscellany, with a fat fee to follow.
A closed shop, of course.”

All week, I’ve seen the best of Belfast at the Book Festival- welcoming, inclusive, creative, joyful- tonight we’re making sure all our lovely guest writers can get home safely through riots and burnt out vehicles and outpouring of hatred. It is such a shame. We are much better than this.

What's terrible about his view on carbon budgets is that these are derived from international law and concepts of equity and climate justice. He invokes SF's working class orientation but ignores the very basis of the international response to climate change and Ireland's role as a rich country

Recently, FamilySearch digitized and uploaded tons of microfilmed records, including many from 18th-century Massachsuetts. They're using some sort of AI to transcribe/summarize the handwritten documents. I've noticed that the AI strips out references to race and enslavement in 18thc documents.

Another #painting from the southwest of Ireland. "Bantry Bay II" came out of a perfect day cycling in West Cork, where in the middle of it myself and the bike had some lunch as we took in the views of all three hundred and and sixty degrees of beauty. #art #SpeirGhorm #ColorADay #BlueTue
Landscape format in acrylics on canvas. Bottom half is water, rippling in shades of blue including some navy ripples in foreground and stretches of pale aqua blue in the distance. Sparkles of light are rendered in many white dots along the crests of the ripples. 9 small boats are moored in the bay. Some are sail boats with their sails down and some are very small. One is in the foreground - a small boat on the left seen from the side facing right, in shade and backlit light throwing up yellow and turquoise into its little wheelhouse. The rest are in the middle distance, where just past all but one is a boat ramp on the left, silhouetted as a black triangle with a lit up warm top. Beside it is a row of dark piles. At far end of bay is sliver of a beach on the left reaching across to an island on the right. The island has its own little beach and clumps of trees on its steep side and on its top tilted towards us a couple of sloping bright green fields. Behind is a low band of pale green and lilac gently undulating hills and behind it large pale blue mountains. Across the top are white fluffy clouds with a horizontal flat pale grey bottom. The pale blue sky is along the very top edge disappearing behind the very soft smoky top edges of the bank of white clouds. Signed bottom right in very dark blue, Liam Daly

Myself and Colin Breen have written in "Maritime Ireland" about seaweed harvesting on Ireland's coastline, in 19th century. These are local rights, well known and established through built features (e.g. wrack walls, kilns, etc). There is no way that such rights be taken over by foreign companies.
