the second the epstein files did not reveal an evil cabal of democrats and trans people sex trafficking minors, the male dominated press and male politicians dropped it. the victims are still being harassed and doxxed and how many men are still demanding their release.

a key reason why rape culture persists is because men do not fear reprisals from *other men*. they do not expect other men to care if they raped someone. they do not expect other men to treat them poorly. they believe that most men will doubt a victim's story and demand evidence.

I absolutely know who needs to hear this, though I won’t name names. Progressive orgs need to stop pretending that “AGI” and “x-risk” are ideas to take seriously. No one is building a computer god that could go rogue and turn us into paper clips.

Some progressives (ahem, Bernie) appear to have fully been taken in by the cult of AI. Others seem confused about the difference between the “computer god —> paper clips” scenario vs “shitty agentic AI fucks things up bc the company was careless” - which is what has been happening lately.

I made this (no Photoshop let alone AI back then) as part of a protest at the University of Minnesota around 1990. A top cop in the campus police went on record w the Minnesota Daily saying if women were raped after drinking, they were responsible.
Parody of a Monopoly card. Orange background. Chance: The woman you raped was drunk - Get out of jail free. Illustration of Monopoly man in striped suit being kicked in the butt.

We felt so helpless. How could she be blamed? ‘She went of her own free will.’ As if consenting to walk into a house was consent for everything after. The frat houses sent invites for free food to every freshman girl. Then they shoved a red cup in your hands. ‘She was drinking.’ Is not consent.

This is obviously disgusting in so many ways. Gonna highlight one: Servicemember beard exemptions are all on religious or medical grounds. They're either Sikhs (mostly South Asian) or have a skin condition related to shaving curly hair (mostly African American). "No beardos" is racist as hell.

"What? Filing a lawsuit with the Supreme Court?" It's rare. But when states are bitch slapping each other, that's how it gets sorted. Abortion-ban states are really angry that abortion-friendly states won't extradite doctors providing care to patients in the ban states. Shit just got real.

Also, back in the day stores had their own delivery people. You could get same-day delivery from stores in your own city! Beyond that, people have been getting ready home deliveries for decades upon decades back before everyone had cars. Sales carts used to just show up at your house!

"Why do we need to create public transit for people to access commerce when they can just buy what they need from Amazon?" "Why should we fund the postal service when Amazon will deliver to your door?" Amazon has now trapped rural communities into their ecosystem with few other options.

The thing is, we have a solution for this called stores. You can go to the store to buy something and have it available immediately. If it isn’t in the store, then it's not in ready supply, so you’ll have to wait. Fact that Amazon obliterated this understanding blows my mind.
