And this was after the administration there at Bowie State received tens of millions of dollars from Mackenzie Scott. It’s appalling, and there is not nearly enough accountability in the USM system for how money is spent. Writing as a member of the USM faculty advisory council (CUSF). @aaup.org

Turns out, political science deciding that all our intro to gov will gloss over the fact that the bill of rights were ignored for 100 years and the rights guaranteed by the actual constitution were ignored (habeas, right to travel) to ensure property rights over slaves. We should be teaching Prigg.

Really striking that the ruling class has gone all in on gambling & AI to squeeze a just little more profit & power from this collapsing system. They might have taken steps to make it appear more stable & just, but doing so cuts against their claim to power. So instead they ensure its collapse.

This passage from Black Power by Stokely Carmichael (Kwame Ture) & Charles V. Hamilton is one that I always find striking. Divestment is more than a financial tool. It is also abt what we expect from systems.
Photo of text from Black Power:

Black and colored peoples are saying in a clear voice that they intend to determine for themselves the kinds of political, social and economic systems they will live under.
Of necessity, this means that the existing systems of the dominant, oppressive group—the entire spectrum of values, beliefs, traditions and institutions—will have to be challenged and changed. It is not to be expected that this fundamental scrutiny will be led by those who benefit or even have expectations of benefit from the status quo.

Women’s share of Russell 3000 board seats rose
from 22.6% in 2020 to 30.1% in 2025. In Q2 2026, it
moved to 29.2%—the first annual decline in more
than a decade. The gains of the past five years
remain substantial, but the change in direction
shows they are not self-sustaining.

In practice, AI literacy doesn’t start with building the tool for your personal use. It starts with understanding yourself as a collection of tasks who should subcontract those out to a machine. Almost no regular person’s life currently exists as such.

I participated in some public library ai courses. I’m telling you that the state of literacies and the complexity of lives deeply enmeshed in the bowels of late stage capitalism cannot find a use case for an agent & if they could, people don’t have the scaffolding to imagine one that could be useful

Really something that the U.S. not only permitted LeRoy Walker to go free after ordering the attack on Fort Sumter that started the Civil War, but allowed him to rewrite the Alabama State Constitution in 1875 to limit the influence of Black & working-class white voters. That something is racism.

I am writing a biography of an imp Black Reconstruction-era thinker, & keep returning to the way he explained the impact of his cross-racial labor organizing: "It was the work of the colored leaders in Alabama that carried that State for the Republicans in 1872. WHITEMEN COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT."

Ok so I’ve seen this dynamic—turning the home or business of Reconstruction-era Black politicians into a parking lot—so frequently that I wonder if there’s enough data to substantiate a larger study. A residential “Redemption.”
Screenshot of text from Howard Rabinowitz’s “Holland Thompson and Black Political Participation in Montgomery, Alabama”

“No will or inventory of Thompson's estate was filed with local au-thorities. Although his burial location in the Negro section of the city graveyard is mentioned in the records, it is no longer possible to identify his final resting place. And where the house and grocery once stood on Jefferson Street, there is now a vacant lot, the only one on a block of late nineteenth-century houses. It is as if he had never existed.”
