Look, I'm not trying to dunk on this guy, but I think more people need to understand that AI is functioning as a religion right now. "There would be actual counterarguments against Jesus" is a thing you see logicians arguing in medieval times.

Discoverability for new SFF books seems way down these days, especially outside of bestsellers and certain subgenres. I'm noticing this as both a reader and a writer. Great stuff is in danger of sinking without a trace. Please post about new/recent books you love or are excited for!!! I'll start:

I worry that Dr. Cottom is understating the case so as not to freak us out (see her opinion piece on panic). Tech bros behavior-- bunkers, data centers, drones, AI replacement-- shows us that not only do they not care about users, they think only a select few of them deserve *to exist.*

that fraternities serve any but the most anti-social purposes, providing sanctuary for entitled young men, whose criminal behavior is often excused, & whose later ascendancy to powerful & prestigious positions is all but guaranteed. There are lots of ways to answer this and one of them is that studying history makes you a better citizen and our public universities have an obligation to produce good citizens. History education is essential to a republican model of government. Engineering is not.

Texas as sci fi novel setting. On Amazon’s delivery drones “raining boxes” in a Dallas suburb: www.nytimes.com/2026/09/21/u...
Screenshot of text: "Before the drones arrived, Richardson was a suburb known as a hub for tech and telecom, and its residents were already living with technology’s intrusions. A massive new A.I. data center sits across the street from one neighborhood, and as recently as last month, 20 Flock cameras, which read license plates and track vehicles, were used at 14 major intersections.

But for those people living closest to the Amazon flight paths, the ever-droning deliveries pose the most serious threat to their private and peaceful life."

Hey, ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson here. I’m taking over the account to tell you about my new story. For months, I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company's "responsible gaming" safeguards. Spoiler alert: They made me a VIP — and I lost $10K. Here's how it all went down. 🧵

My take on the coffee interview is that it is a sign that the way we interview is broken. Because, yeah, way too many jobs have dozens of qualified candidates, and letting people invent arbitrary criteria to sort through them is the worst possible solution.

Between shit like this, the entire GOP loving AI, Linda McMahon trying to force it into schools, Musk making Mechahitler, and data centers being built in predominantly black communities, there's a very obvious theme here and yet the AI stans on "our side" pretend it isn't there. Funny that.

way to go, you fucking morons. I hope you're happy with how things are going
Going beyond the necessary cost cutting, tech’s newly radicalized billionaires used this moment to wage class war and enforce discipline on what they saw as an unruly workforce. Gone were the days of coddling tech workers and viewing them as the industry’s most valuable assets. Instead, the progressivism and idealism that had come, in part, from the techno-utopianism of the 2000s and 2010s was now seen by Silicon Valley’s executives and investors as an explicit threat. And so, these billionaires set their sights on winning the culture war and dismantling the left-liberal foundations they believed had turned their own workers against them. To do so, and to avoid another bout of Biden-esque regulation, they threw in their support with Trump, laying the foundations of what would soon be known as the tech oligarchy—a power bloc uniting capital and politics under a shared project of restoring control.
