As I understand it (which isn’t well because it’s batshit) it’s not ULEZ per se, but the cameras, which they think are scanning their brains or something 😵‍💫

It’s a small point amongst the vomit of derangement - but he has no idea who the Israeli opposition leader is when the name is mentioned. Trump’s stupidity is boundless.

Somehow not everyone is aware of fact alluded to below. So one more time: John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett were all on GWBush 2000 'Florida Recount' team. (Which made GWB first prez in 112 yrs to 'win' after losing popular vote. Now they 'impartially' rule on our future.)

Not a dicky bird about thugs trying to sink a dinghy with a rescue worker on board or their claims to be "forming an army". Two boats of people seeking safety land and bingo bango they're the ones portrayed as the issue. Labour is complict in the rise of the far right. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I see you wrote the Bradt guide to North Korea - which I’ve used. Thank you! So I’m very bemused that you can spend so long in a country like that and not see the importance of the democratic process.

Well, there’s another option if you don’t want to vote! Stand for election yourself and get others to vote for you. But not engaging in the democratic process = no right to complain when you don’t like the results.

I think it's absolutely mad that today there's a *national news story* about 400 oil platform workers losing their jobs, and the government being blamed. 25% of the UK TV industry lost their jobs in the last 4 years and we never hear a peep about it! Some jobs are 'real jobs' I guess.

It kind of is. It’s fulfilling your duty as a citizen and demanding the govt uphold their end of the contract. If you don’t vote you don’t have any right to complain.

I’ve been working in factual TV since the 90s & have reluctantly accepted it’s probably over. I know many others in the same situation. The Guardian have been good at covering the crisis but barely a squeak from elsewhere.

willp5.bsky.social @willp5.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Um - film & high end TV contributed £5.8 billion to the economy in 2025. That’s before smaller productions. Then factor in ancillary industries & the tourism shows drive & you’re looking at massive multipliers. But I’m glad you think the jobs crisis in the industry is irrelevant.

You would have the option to abstain. You’d just have to turn up at the polling station and tick that box or spoil your paper. Small price for living in a democracy.

Paying for it out of general tax sounds like a good idea, but isn’t. Public broadcasting becomes a political football & can be defunded on a whim. This is what happens in Australia. Great for ABC & SBS when Labor are in power. Hard times when the Liberals rule. Now imagine a Reform govt.
