They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

This post for my story was kindly shared on Facebook where my wife noted the AI option to find out more about me. Let's just say she is not the only one surprised to hear I have a Guinness World Record. No one sent me a certificate.
A Facebook AI answer to Who is Brian M. Milton.
It goes: Brian M Milton is a British author, journalist and record-breaking adventurer who writes mainly about aviation and 'new aviation ' sports

Who he is

This is the writer mentioned in the Glasgow SF Writer's Circle post.
Award winning adventurer and aviation historian, former journalist.
Holds the Guinness World Record for the first circumnavigation of the globe in a microlight aircraft in 1998
Founded the British Hang Gliding League and won the Prince of Wales Cup for beating the Americans
Works as a nonfiction author and ghostwriter since 1998, specialising in aviation history and adventure accounts

What he writes

He's best known for aviation history and adventure nonfiction, but the post you're reading mentions new fantasy work.

Great moments in Scottish engineering history: James Watt tries to work out how his phone attaches to his selfie stick.
Statue of James Watt. In his right hand he holds a telescopic stick with a frame at the top; in his left he holds a flat object about the size of a large smartphone. He is scowling at the possibly-not-a-smartphone as if he is tempted to yeet it into the sea. On that basis, it probably _is_ a phone.

A pile of 3 books, anthologies by the GSFWC in the last 10 years. On top Haverin, then Gallus, and on bottom the 30th anniversary Thirty Years of Rain. Cover artist Jenni Coutts studies a test copy of the book, ensuring that she is happy with how it looks. Brian hitting the big order button having had Jenni's approval. Author Elsie WK Donald, a little grey haired woman. One of the earliest members of the GSFWC and still a regular.
