Much writing advice starts from the idea that you either A - meticulously plan everything and then write to the plan B - geniusly improvise the entire story as you go along

Come to the launch of the anthology I'm an editor on! It's been a real labour of love from everyone involved to put together over 40 stories from members new and old of our local writers' group.

#CoverReveal alert! Behold the cover art for our new anthology Haverin, designed by our own Jenni Coutts. Look carefully and you'll spot some sneaky clues to the tales inside. Celebrating 40 years of the GSFWC, #Haverin is out October 2026 from Taverna Press. #GSFWC40 @jennicoutts.bsky.social(1/2)
The cover of Haverin, the GSFWC anthology, which features a red-haired girl reading while surrounded by books and a cat in a green space. Text reads: Featuring: Neil Williamson, E.M. Faulds, Christopher Caldwell, Eliza Chan and many more. Haverin, Edited by Brian M. Milton, Peter Morrison and Heather Valentine. The back of the cover of Haverin, continuing the green landscape dotted with various creatures, including a robot head, lion, and a pie. Text reads: Haverin, Scots, Verb: Talking in a foolish or trivial manner, speaking nonsense. Glaswegians enjoy a bit of haverin and few enjoy it more than the Glasgow SF Writers' Circle have for the last forty years, following many hard critique sessions with a bit of a haver in the pub. This anthology is a celebration of those forty years, with more than forty stories of Fantasy, Science and the Odd from members past and present. Join us on this fantastical journey, turning havers into stories and revelling in the full range of writing that has come out of the Circle since 1986.

It has been so rewarding working with local writers - some of whom are having their very first publication - to celebrate my Glasgow SF community as both a group with a long legacy and a welcoming and ongoing meet-up to talk writing and get feedback from other creatives

reddit post from r/relationship_advice: "My boyfriend has a “man-crush” on a video game character. He says the character is fake and he’s not having sex with the guy so he’s not bisexual. If he was bisexual, I wouldn’t care, but he’s insistent he’s not. If he is, I want him to feel accepted and I kind of want to know what other people think about his behaviour."

comment from a deleted user: "Whats the character?"

reply from op bfmancrush: "Dimitri from Fire Emblem."

I climbed conic hill over the weekend, which is great, a big climb for me, I love being in nature, etc, except I do now also make a sound like a thwomp from mario 64 whenever I move between standing and sitting
I am standing in front of a view of loch lomond from the top of conic hill. My face is very red and I'm wearing a penguin pride parade shirt from edinburgh zoo.

Here are my 10 favourite new film releases that I watched in 2025. In theory very loosely ranked, but One Battle After Another, Sinners and Bugonia are so close for me that I could spend the rest of next year finessing their order in a top 3.
Film title, director, order L-R, top to bottom. One Battle After Another, Paul Thomas Anderson. Sinners, Ryan Coogler. Bugonia, Yorgos Lanthimos. Dying, Matthias Glasner. Fiume O Morte!, Igor Bezinović. Materialists, Celine Song. Eddington, Ari Aster. Peacock, Bernhard Wenger. Boys Go To Jupiter, Julian Glander. Pillion, Harry Lighton.
