Just finished up in work and have 2 weeks of holidays ahead; I might couple that with some time away from social media too. Gonna try to reset my brainhole and get some creative stuff working for me again! Comics? Short stories? Those unfinished Twine games I have on my laptop? Gonna try it all!

I can't recall who recommended 'Sai' on Netflix to me but I'm having the worst time watching this. Haunted vibes, can't describe why parts are unsettling. 10/10 show so far.

Just noticed that someone who used to be a mutual now has blocked me. Which of my most tepid and people-pleasing posts, where I don't dare fully express real opinions because I'm afraid I'll annoy someone, could have caused that? Who knows! Oh well

I know some books are kind of like westerns, or neo-westerns, but over my holidays this might be my first time in my 43 years to *read* a straight up Western.
Cover for Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry.
The picture is the back of some guy, some guy I assume is named Lonesome Dove, atop a horse... Maybe the horse is Lonesome Dove...?
Anyway, he's holding a rope that I assume is tied to a kite that hasn't made the crop to the front cover.
(Maybe the kite is the titular Lonesome Dove?)
The book is just short of 900 pages long, so probably about the length of a story mission in Red Dead Redemption 2, but presumably more generously paced.

Few willing to accept that the day has bested them. While a big coat may have been a choice at 7am, the 1pm 17° heat sun in a cloudless sky is mocking you. Accept your defeat for today, big jacket fans.

Occasionally my brain gets stuck on how through the growing mass of MCU movies and tv shows, they all have the blandest original soundtracks. Just an entirely forgettable soundscape. Through repetition maybe the main Avengers theme has broken out but it's still not noteworthy by itself.

8 people are needed to cover my (1) job while I'm away on leave. The first week back after I return from leave is usually spent cleaning up the issues people created in my job while I'm away.

Microsoft 365 is so bad for Co-Pilot bullshit. Offline Word would underline things in blue if the syntax was off, suggesting a comma or capital letter - now online that same blue underline suggests an entirely different sentence. & not always the same sentence if you hover over it a few times!

If I won't wade into the "top tv of the 21st century" discourse™ I'm not gonna go near the "have you heard this song?" discourse™. I don't take music cues from people who don't recognise that "Bumblin' Creed" by Padang Food Tigers & Sigbjørn Apeland is one of the best albums of the last decade.

Have finally answered a big "do all shows just look like garbage now or is my tv broken?" question and the answer will surprise only people who have experience exclusively watching tv in my house.

Confident in my ability to properly tennis, I take the court. I smile at my opponent. Serena does not return the gesture. She'd be prettier if she did, I think. She serves. The ball passes cleanly through my skull, killing me instantly

Still bummed my photography group absolutely imploded because the organiser wasn't happy with now many people attended their show. Been missing going out with people and taking photos but the darker months are here, I prefer doing night photos alone, sunset at 19:13, gonna make the most of it!

I once drank the entire 1.5 litre jug of water during an interview, I finished it and someone from the interview panel slowly pushed their 1.5L water towards me and I took it. The room was incredibly hot. The interview was 40 minutes long and I finished almost 3 litres of water.

No, I'm not creating an New York Times account to get mad that someone has a different idea of "what are the greatest tv shows" than me. (I get that experience anytime I talk to anyone about any tv shows anyway.)

Briefly met @jonronson.bsky.social years ago after he gave a talk (Psychopath Test tour?) but forgot my copy of 'Adventures with Extremists' to get signed, so buying a signed copy of his new book is a small consolation. Exactly the kind of weird, unhinged stories I wish didn't exist but still enjoy.
The cover of Jon Ronson's The Castle.
Incidentally the only book I've read in less than a week all year - not a comment on its length, just noting I have reached for it before even doomscrolling on my phone in the evenings.

If the Irish Times is doing write-ups of every fuck-up of a home business that goes under then they're gonna need to bulk up their page count. Maybe a weekly supplement?

I'm not reading a 66 post long thread but I'm happy for them or sorry that happened. Either way it's a chore to read any thread longer than 5 posts. If it's important enough it'll be written in literally any other format. I'll take "pieced together from audio logs in a computer game" before that.

the point of freeing yourself from the prison of ego is not getting there you’re not gonna do that. never gonna happen. the point is cultivating a practice of routinely asking “wait, I am too into my own shit here?” in every aspect of your dealings at least once or twice a day. anyhow good morning

We've had adaptions using Shakespearean English set in 90's USA, a musical version set in 50's New York, an animated version set in a garden with garden gnomes, a version set in Tromaville; whatever "veracity matters!" panic people are winding themselves up into is silly.

Don't really think Ireland as a whole deserves a pat on the back for the work of some artists, activists, and the people who pressure and protest, when our government watered down the OTB, the GAA refuses to drop Israeli weapon insurer Allianz, and the FAI is happy to play Israel without Irish fans

PANEL 2: Wizard in closeup. WIZARD: "Problem is most people have tangled up their idea of wizardry with a pastoral never-was England."
PANEL 3: Wizard in medium shot, smoking. WIZARD: "But, well, Indiana needs wizards, too. An' maybe it ain't the worst thing in the world if we had more wizards who c'n change the oil in a car."
PANEL 4: Close up side view of the wizard's face, still smoking. WIZARD: "Like ev'rybody *loves* Gandalf. But Gandalf'll never teach a local kid how to shoplift baby formula to help his momma."
PANEL 5: Wizard in medium shot, looking down. WIZARD: "Nah, people don't like magic around. Reminds 'em they *could* have a different way of doing things than the one that hurts em so bad, an' lotsa folks can't handle that."
