Ok, this may look like the more likely scenario now, but it also still makes Schmitt and his staff look very incompetent. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/what-happe...
Another possibility, consistent with Schmitt’s statements was that the Hawks game was the only NBA or NCAA mens game on at that time, and so when his staff googled basketball games on that date, they focused on the Atlanta game. In this theory, there was no confusion between the Hawks and Hawkeyes, just a coincidence. A reporter who has seen the texts say there was no mention of the Hawks or Hawkeyes.

If so, the Schmitt team just looks more incompetent. There five other NBA games on the same date. (It also reflects the point that Schmitt’s team could not imagine Smith went to a women’s game, even though Clark we mentioned elsewhere in texts between staff). The Hawks game started at 7.30pm but other games started at 8.00 or 8.30, so if the texts were timestamped for around 7.30, that hardly seems definitive. After all, the game Smith actually attended started at 8pm. There were also mens NCAA games, including a Duke-UNC game that started at 6.30.

Wage growth just keeps slowing. And yes, wages are rising slower than prices, and no, that's not how economic growth is meant to work.
Line chart titled "Nominal wage growth is slowing" showing year-over-year growth in average hourly earnings of private-sector workers. Wage growth has declined steadily from a peak of 5.9% in early 2022 to 3.0% in September 2026, the slowest rate in the series. This nearly 3 percentage point drop over four and a half years indicates significantly cooler labor market conditions, with the deceleration accelerating in recent months as growth fell from the 3.7-3.9% range in 2025 to the low 3% range currently.

I recommend people read this to get a sense of the president's grave cognitive impairment. Trump is either unwilling or unable (or maybe both) to answer the questions he's actually asked, so he just rants and raves while the interviewers do their best to provide structure to his random brain firings

For a long time I've wanted a sense of how trump has or hasn't interacted with chatbots (we know he posts a lot of slop sure). And this TIME anecdote about Grok arguably leading Trump into war is just extremely bracing
Since returning to office, Trump has marveled at AI’s capabilities. He is increasingly in thrall to the tech executives courting him. In December 2025, Elon Musk returned to the Oval Office for a clandestine meeting. Trump spent hours asking Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, questions about his presidency and legacy, according to an official present. At the time, Trump was ordering missile strikes against Venezuelan boats he alleged were smuggling drugs into the U.S. He asked Grok how Venezuelans would react if the U.S. captured Maduro. According to the official present, the chatbot responded that Maduro was a repressive and deeply unpopular dictator and that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his downfall. After Trump ordered the mission to seize Maduro, the following month, celebrations broke out in the streets. Trump, according to officials, came away thinking Grok was ingenious.
