customizing winxp's file explorer got me thinking about toolbar-based interface design. why did everybody (except Qt devs) move away from that? being able to rearrange buttons, split and group them, choose between labels or icons or both... it's an old aspect of customization people tend to overlook

...and the keyboard's buttoned back up! not ideal, but it's good enough for now whenever I get around to learning kicad I'll condense this down to a DIP40-sized board that can slot into the existing spot for the MCU

well win2k seems a bit more effort than it's worth, so I cleaned up the factory install instead

sony vaio pcg-u3 laptop next to its external CD-ROM drive. they're almost the same size. the wallpaper is a vaio default one, modified to include the "unhand me you fuck" image in the corner with an ethereal glow

learned last night that the hard drive was replaced with a CF adapter. would've saved a couple days had I known that 🫠 still want to replace it with an M.2 adapter. theoretically an iflash one would work, but the ribbon to 40pin adapter they sell is at the wrong angle...

like, it doesn't even try to boot into what's on the stick, it just ignores it and goes straight to USB anyway reminds me of a microsd reader that'd stop my main PC from booting if it was plugged in w/ no card

so this vaio can't boot to USB on its own, which makes sense since it predates that being A Thing. a common workaround is to use a CD bootloader called "plop", which handles booting to USB, but that was hanging turns out. if I insert one of sony's fuckass Memory Sticks™ into the slot. it fixes that

Many games for the GameCube use only a fraction of the storage capacity of the disc. I have analyzed the data to determine what the maximum number of retail Mario games that can fit on a single disc would be, creating the Luigi & Wario + Puzzle + Rhythm Maximum Value Pack.

$A GameCube disc has a storage capacity of 1.46 gigabytes. Many Mario games use only a fraction of that storage. Below is the optimal distribution of the smallest Mario-related games on the system to fit 6 entire retail games on a single disc. Unused space 54 MB Luigi's Mansion 186 MB DDR Mario Mix 264 MB Wario World 257 MB Donkey Konga 2 312 MB Donkey Konga 250 MB Please note that this pie chart is for data visualization only. Do you have clear skies Thursday and Friday nights? Northern U.S. aurora chasers have a decent chance ofr some horizon displays those nights depending on the arrival timing of the enhanced solar wind. These are slow ramps usually over the course of hours-days, and timings are rough, not exact.

Here it comes... the large coronal hole is almost directly facing Earth now, which means fast solar wind is 3-4 days away. In fact, NOAA SWPC has just issued a G1/minor storm watch for Oct 2. This means there are chances for mid-latitude auroral displays Thu and Fri nights. #heliophysics
