Early in his career, Angelo Badalamenti often was credited as "Andy Badale." This is his earliest recorded appearance that I can find, from 1962. An instrumental called "Old Spice," written and arranged by Angelo and John Abbott, released as a single under the name Clyde and the Bird Watchers.

This whole post for the Donald Pleasance epi is great fun, but I really love this tidbit about Joyce Jillson, who was: “… The official astrologer for 20th Century Fox Studios during the 70s. Apparently she was consulted on what would be the best opening days for movies, incl 1977's Star Wars.”

I always read Mary Oliver outside but reading this poem by the river on the first morning of October in the last thirdish of my life hit really hard
October
There's this shape, black as the entrance to a cave.
A longing wells up in its throat like a blossom as it breathes slowly.
What does the world
mean to you if you can't trust it to go on shining when you're
not there? And there's a tree, long-fallen; once
the bees flew to it, like a procession of messengers, and filled it with honey.
I said to the chickadee, singing his heart out in the green pine tree:
little dazzler, little song, little mouthful.cave.
3
The shape climbs up out of the curled grass. It grunts into view. There is no measure for the confidence at the bottom of its eyes-. there is no telling
the suppleness of its shoulders as it turns and yawns.
Near the fallen tree
something a leaf snapped loose
from the branch and fluttering down tries to pull me into its trap of attention.
4
It pulls me
into its trap of attention.
And when I turn again, the bear is gone.
Look, hasn't my body already felt like the body of a flower?
6
Look, I want to love this world
as though it's the last chance I'm ever going to get to be alive and know it.Sometimes in late summer I won't touch anything, not the flowers, not the blackberries brimming in the thickets; I won't drink from the pond; I won't name the birds or the trees;
I won't whisper my own name.
One morning
the fox came down the hill, glittering and confident, and didn't see me and I thought: so this is the world.
I'm not in it.
It is beautiful.

My favorite surprise in all these responses was Chris naming Derek Jarman’s Blue. I saw Blue at the NY Film Festival when I was maybe 21 and didn’t fully understand it and also never, ever forgot it. I should watch it again; I suppose it ls mysteries would hit me much different at 55.

Name a film with a female director: High Art by Lisa Cholodenko, about ambition and the art world. I feel like it’s a coming of age story but for your 20s, when you start becoming an adult and may be shocked at your own choices. Exquisite performances and female characters that actually feel real.

The Abbey Steps, leading up to the clifftop St Mary's Churchyard, Whitby. The 'benches' at the side were originally coffin rests, where weary pallbearers could lay down their caskets. Whitby Abbey is haunted by a white lady, who appears in a window. #spookysunday #folklore #gothic #ghosts #history

I am in Ashland, Oregon, and just watched eleven turkeys solemnly walk down the Airbnb’s long driveway like a procession of barristers before turning around, as one; a last turkey, panicking, careened towards them in as ungainly a fashion as possible. They made a left at the mailbox.

Oh hey, here’s my photo of the full moon tonight. I’m also available for weddings and graduations. 🙃
This photo looks like it was taken underwater - it’s blurry and squiggly and the only clear thing is a bright white jagged line that looks almost like lightning bolt. It’s the result of taking a photo of the full moon but moving away too quickly for the image to take.

Kicked off my sabbatical tonight watching the Oasis concert film with an old friend in an ancient theater I frequented when I first moved to Portland in 1997. Such a prismatic experience, all these layers of history, the band and the venue inseparable from my own life. Feeling deeply grateful.
A long, nearly empty corridor in a cinema bursting with neon signs and red track lighting. It looks very, very 1980s.

Emily, my kindred spirit
Fall, Leaves, Fall by Emily Bronte
Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;
Lengthen night and shorten day;
Every leaf speaks bliss to me,
Fluttering from the autumn tree.
I shall smile when wreaths of snow
Blossom where the rose should grow;
I shall sing when night’s decay
Ushers in a drearier day.
