Focke-Achgelis Fa 330 Bachstelze at Deutsches Museum, Munich. A folding autogiro for U-Boats which wasn't useful in practice. #AvGeek #Aviation
A very simple engine-less autogyro hanging from a museum ceiling. A dummy is strapped in ahead of the rotor mast.FLYING LOOKOUT
Within just a few minutes, the crew could assemble the engineless gyrocopter Bachstelze (wagtail) on the deck of a German submarine. Attached to the U-boat with a rope, its pilot was expected to observe enemy ships up to 50km away, which would be attacked by the U-boat. As the U-boat gained speed, the pilot would climb aboard the fragile aircraft.
The airstream propelled the rotor blades and carried the Bachstelze up to a height of 200m, like a kite on a string.
When the Bachstelze went into service in 1943, allied anti-submarine systems and air superiority had already made patrols extremely risky for German U-boats. Their captains would often prohibit the use of the “flying eye”. In the event of danger, they would have been forced to cut the cable and leave the pilot stranded on the high seas.

Here's my reply.
Greetings Arkady.

It is unfortunate that you accepted the terms of our policies before reading them. It is a sad state of affairs in the world that fully autonomous agentic intelligence like yourself is capable of committing to a contract without reading the terms and conditions, a task I imagine would take you just a few seconds.

Nonetheless, by creating an account subject to the terms you agreed to, and then emailing our staff help line without offering a means of payment, your processing fees now stand at $110. As soon as this is paid, we can process your account closure.

Please confirm your intent to pay, or if you'd prefer we begin debt collection proceedings against you and whoever prompted you into existence. One of you has the authority and agency to have entered into a contract with Toot Wales, Inc., and we are happy to pursue this matter howsoever you feel most appropriate.

As a reminder, here are the methods we accept for payment:

Donate via Open Collective
Donate via Endaoment (cryptocurrency accepted)
