I don't often read the comments on the Orange site, but every so often, very occasionally, one strikes gold. "Maybe just maybe, the novelty will wear off and people realize how artificial and soul-less these AI-tokenmaxxed app's are, with their temu Cyberpunk aesthetics, California minimalist […]

RE: mastodon.social/@BjornW/11735917426… One of my core memories about being involved in FLOSS is when I finally met the guy who wrote the first ever PR I accepted and we bonded over the fact that it was also the first PR he ever submitted and how wonderful the experience was for […]

DHHs "technology adoption" argument on stage with Matz that resistance to LLMs is like the initial resistance to early Rails because it was "new", "slow" & "didn't scale"; dismissed by incumbents, but eventually succeeded & "revolutionised" the industry, likely isn't wrong. But it misses a […]

The LLM takeover of programming is stripping programmers of our personal sovereignty. It's an extension of wealth inequality. I don't want the future job market to be restricted only to people rich enough to afford unlimited token spend.

RE: mastodon.social/@diegoe/11733139028… I don't think this is a new idea. In fact even the acronym FLOSS contains two competing reasons for having publicly available software. Free/Libre Software vs Open Source - two distinct framings with the same obviously visible outcome - […]

I've spent a bunch of time talking with my Japanese teacher recently about relative clauses and using verbs to modify nouns (食べる人。 昨日買った本。etc). Today I glanced over to my bookshelf and realised that there's a whole selection of my Manga whose titles I just understand at a glance now. I'm a […]

Open Source hot take: A software project is allowed to be *done*. Not everything needs to add features or rewrite things. You can just be happy with functionality and focus on just maintainance. "Maintenance mode" is not always bad but can just show a mature product.

It really bugs me that the discourse around immigration in Britain focuses around a notion of Britishness that assumes indigenousness. Our whole history is a hodge-podge of invasions, immigrations & racial mixing. The Beakers, Celts, Romans, Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Vikings, Normans, and more […]
