It's Don't Argue Inside Your Head With Other People Friday. Today, if you find yourself arguing inside your head with someone who's not present, or who it isn't safe or fair for you to argue with, gently move your mind away. Do this as many times as you need.

listen. this topic right here makes me fuckin' RAGE. I am good at a lot of things. But I also have a brain wired quirky & sometimes that makes me capable of amazing things & sometimes that make me incapable of very basic things. I do not organize publishing projects because I know myself well.

we don't all get to just do whatever the fuck we want and then make everyone else pay the price for it. moving through the world as someone whose brain (and body! my body gives out sometimes to!) can't always be relied upon means not setting myself up to fuck up other people's lives.

and this is not just about what I owe to other people. this is a kindness I have learned to give myself. like many people with ADHD, I have left a graveyard of good intentioned projects in my wake, and there have been times I've crashed out so hard it felt like STARTING A NEW LIFE was easier

and the fact that I have spent enough time working on myself and trying to set myself up for success (and avoid setting myself up for terrible failure) means I have pretty much no patience for people who move through the world with such selfish disregard for their impact on the lives around them.

Cat is 100% right about this. Obstacles, strife, friction -- these are REQUIRED ingredients for being human. Our capacity to feel good tracks with our capacity to feel bad, because really it's the capacity to FEEL. If AI makes everything convenient, humanity devolves to isolated socialslop.

It's officially pumpkin season, which happens to be a special treat for our ambassador wolves this time of year! 🎃🐺 Although wolves are classified as carnivores, they can sometimes have an omnivorous diet. Along with meat and eggs, wolves may also enjoy fruits like pumpkins. #wolffact

Onagadori Rooster. Ink and gouache on Fabriano Medioevalis, 85 × 132 mm, 2022.
Drawing in black ink, primarily in silhouette, of an Onagadori rooster with long flowing tail covert feathers on a plum blossom branch. The rooster's comb and wattle are the only spots of red. The piece is smaller than a postcard and is photographed with the traditional Chinese brush it was drawn with.

"Medicaid work requirements" are above water with the American electorate (net +18). Calling the same policy "Medicaid eligibility cuts" meaningfully decreases support (net -11). I do not understand the insistence on adopting the framing of those trying to destroy Medicaid
Bar chart of polling data from Data For Progress.
Title: Voters Support the Same Medicaid Rules When Called "Work Requirements" and Oppose Them When Called "Eligibility Cuts".
Description: Under new rules, some adults can get or keep Medicaid only if the state confirms that they meet work, school, or volunteer rules. [Split A n=613] Do you support or oppose these Medicaid work requirements? [Split B n=598] Do you support or oppose these Medicaid eligibility cuts?
[Split A] Medicaid work requirements — Support: 57%, Oppose: 39%
[Split B] Medicaid eligibility cuts — Support: 42%, Oppose: 55%

Researchers find that one-time trainings about consent can actually increase perpetration. In my interviews with young men, they told me that they knew no one believed what they were saying because it hadn’t come up before—and no one actually held men accountable anyway.

To put it another way, you can’t just tell your sons they need to take accountability—you need to hold them accountable. Start with small stuff. Don’t shield them for the consequences of their actions. Walk them through the process of doing the wrong thing and turning it into the right thing.

It's great to see tailoring accommodate such extreme movement today. This level of tailoring was a bit more common in the past, as you can see in old films featuring Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly, but many modern suits will lift off the wearer's neck even when they're just walking.
