When explaining why we should not cork they have repeatedly told participants that if a driver was to step on their gas pedal while a group of cyclists were in front of them, it would be our fault. This is not a concern for cycling safety but a justification for violence against us.

Hyper-fast acceleration is dangerous as well as pointless. As I wrote in 2024, the 0-to-60 metric is outdated and needs to die. No driver on a public road needs to go from 0 to 60 mph in under 8 seconds. Even the slowest car on the market is more than quick enough.
fastcompany.com
How fast can a car go from 0 to 60? It really doesn't matter
The auto industry has pushed this metric for decades. But cars—especially EVs—are so fast that comparing the decimals is pointless and dangerous.

The 2026 @hfxgov.bsky.social road safety annual report: 20 fatal road crashes reported, 20 fatalities by August, an 82% increase in fatal crashes That's not a "mixed picture of #RoadSafety performance", but a complete failure of #VisionZero implementation! visionzerohfx.ghost.io/twenty-death...

Twenty deaths on our streets in 2025 is not 'favourable' progress
If zero means zero, then the most important number in the 2026 Road Safety Annual Report is twenty. Twenty people died on HRM roads in 2025. Everything else is secondary.

Can’t stop thinking about how the city gave us a 2m (6’) wide barricade to block off a street that has an entrance that’s about 15m (50’) wide. Good thing we have a lot of traffic cones in our stash!
An extremely wide street with an even wider opening due to weird and bad design. An orange saw horse with “street closed” is placed in the street but there’s still room to drive an enormous vehicle on either side of it. In front of the saw horse are the green conflict markings for a bike lane. The wear pattern on the green paint is telling.

Just completed my first attempt at designing and 3d printing a costume prop. My wife needed a battle axe for her costume, so I did what I could. Had some difficulties with one of the grey filaments. I definitely learned a lot, and would do a few things different, but not too bad for a first try.

The argument that Donald Trump invaded Canada today is much more compelling than many realize. The border between Canada and the United States runs through the middle of Lake Ontario. By claiming to have the power to rename the entire lake, Trump is claiming the lake. That's invasion by declaration.

A screenshot of a text post by Tern (@1goodtern) dated August 21, 2026. The author recounts a conversation with two colleagues about societal changes.
Narrative Summary
•	The Observation: The colleagues note that people are angrier, slower to understand, have more emotional problems, and less impulse control "since the pandemic."
•	The Argument: The author points out that these are documented effects of COVID-19 infections on cognitive function and mental health.
•	The Contradiction: A colleague asks, "If those studies are right, wouldn't we be seeing an effect right the way across society?" despite having just described exactly that.
•	The Evidence: The author cites rising sickness absences (kids, NHS staff, civil servants), increased disability approvals, higher expected mortality in lower-vaccinated age groups, and secondary infections.
•	Conclusion: The colleagues reluctantly agree COVID-19 makes things worse but remain unwilling to change their lifestyle habits.
