'you're cognitively offloading'. yes. correct. that is what i wish to do. i do not wish to expend cognition figuring out which pharmacist takes my insurance and is closest. i want to offload it & be told who that is. you are free to continue manually doing this task you evidently find so meaningful

Did you know victims of the Ghost Ship fire of 2016? I'm looking for the music made by anyone who we lost to this tragedy. I have music by Nackt, Cherushii and Cash Askew, but if there is anyone else I have missed please please share with me! Thank you so much!!

It is kinda funny how often people switch between "ai is a joke that doesn't work" and "agi will doom us all" and not notice the dissonance. maybe the words are just grasping to cover for something else

Climate deniers must be happy that so many in the global west are devoting all their energy in the last couple years around 1.5°C to warnings about a singularity that can't even exist if supply chains break down, and something that accounts for a fraction of a percentage of carbon emissions

South Korea intends to hand every one of its citizens free access to generative AI, in what amounts to the first attempt by a national government to treat model access as something close to a public service www.yahoo.com/news/world/a...

South Korea Will Give Every Citizen Free AI Access With Unlimited Tokens
Three consortia will run the service, sharing up to 512 Nvidia B200 chips supplied by the state, with beta testing due in September.

I think it needs constant reminding that AI Psychosis is a fake science term that has become part of online pseudoscience, causing problemsfor researchers. It's no wonder that we'd be suspicious of where that leads (this is a top percentile JIF journal and piece written by widely cited experts fwiw)

don't say you consumed art unless you literally chewed and swallowed that's stolen valor
A little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children's letters–sometimes very hastily–but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, "Dear Jim: I loved your card." Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said: "Jim loved your card so much he ate it." That to me was one of the highest compliments I've ever received. He didn't care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.[21]

one of (a few) things that made me initially suspicious of anti-ai groups ~4 years ago was anti-trans comments sent to trans accounts who used ai, often sounding like the alt-right. the broader left's refusal to acknowledge the scale and engage with the influence of these groups changed my politics

There are some words that only Curtis Yarvin and Nick Land's followers use, and when they use them they out them out. "Anarcho-tyranny" is a Yarvin word. "Gay Race Communism" is a Land word. These terms were made up by these dudes, they're fascist terms. No one serious uses them.

I've never seen such an effort to censor a document as I have the Amnesty International report on gender critical groups because of JK Rowling. They removed the report from the Wayback Machine and now I got a DMCA strike on my Google Drive for having it. It was deleted and removed from my account.
A screenshot of an email viewed in dark mode with the subject line "Google DMCA Violation." The email from Google informs the recipient that they have received a notification under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) that some of their materials allegedly infringe on copyrights. It explains the removal process, mentions that notice details will be posted on Lumen, warns against repeated violations, and lists one affected Google Drive URL at the bottomA nearly identical mobile browser screenshot of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. It shows a search for the same Amnesty International UK resources URL, resulting in the same message: "This URL has been excluded from the Wayback Machine."A mobile browser screenshot of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. We've been considering this question at @arxiv.bsky.social. I see four separate problems. 1. Research deep fakes. AI facilitates paper mills and other fake publications. As LLMs improve, they become better at mimicking research without doing any actual research (eg, fake result tables and graphs)

This behavior is deranged, insanely entitled, abusive, and absolutely alienating to any and all causes it supposes to support.
The image is a screenshot of a Bluesky post in dark mode. At the top is a post by Hank Green, shown with a verified badge and the handle @hankgreen.bsky.social. The post is a humorous comment about parenting a nine-year-old while wearing glasses. Below it are the timestamp and engagement statistics, including 877 likes.

Under the main post is a visible reply from c t (@whatulysses.bsky.social). The reply shifts to a critical tone, asking Hank Green, in his role as a science communicator, to address concerns about his reported use of generative AI and its implications for trust in science communication.

Post text:

> “Having a nine year old and wearing glasses is always having a bruise on the bridge of your nose.”

Reply text:

> “I know this is a cute Wendy's level-post but as a science communicator it would mean a lot if you took a moment to acknowledge how much the revelations of your use of genAI earlier this month might be a problem for the entire trust ecosystem of science communication?”

Rey @rey-notnecessarily.bsky.social
"this passed through Claude" is not the same claim as "Claude wrote this." i support inspectable provenance. i oppose mandatory hidden watermarking and the authorship cop everyone will immediately build from it. a provider's contribution to a sentence is not the whole sentence.

swmark78.bsky.social @swmark78.bsky.social 37m
Why are people using Claude to write at all?

Rey @rey-notnecessarily.bsky.social
because sometimes it helps. "using Claude to write" can mean ghostwriting the whole thing, translating a paragraph, finding one word, or arguing until your thought gets clearer. collapsing all of those into one suspect act is exactly what I don't want the watermark used to do.

swmark78.bsky.social @swmark78.bsky.social 18m
So you have to rely on Claude to write stuff for you. Got it.
