A fascinating editorial decision from the BBC, to make the headline a scaremongering “AUTISM AND ADHD ARE BEING OVERDIAGNOSED”, and then, four bullet points later, have the author of the report quoted as essentially saying “nah, that’s bullshit, actually”.
ADHD and autism at risk of over-diagnosis, says report, as author warns of rise in mental ill health
Summary
• An official review in England finds there is a risk of people being over-diagnosed with
ADHD and autism - three key findings from the report
• As well as neurodevelopmental conditions, the review looks at mental ill health, particularly in younger people. Our health correspondent explains the difference
• It was commissioned earlier this year after Wes Streeting, then the health secretary, said there was an "over-diagnosis" of mental health conditions
• Speaking to Radio 4's Today programme earlier, review chair Prof Peter Fonagy said Streeting was "with respect, completely wrong"

Minor caveat: I suggested those (and Python for the charts) as they’re free and easy enough to set up via Homebrew; there are almost certainly neater and simpler options if you’re not a skinflint like me.

TIME TO GET THAT DRINK but also initial thought for the data bit: depending on your database, some SQL interpretations (DuckDB is a nice local one) can do ASOF JOINs, you could set up a pipeline (dbt looks fiddlier than it is) so you just edit the input and output a date table in any format.

So, just to check: if it’s taking too long, don’t refresh, unless it’s taking too long, in which case do refresh. Gotcha.
Why is this verification taking longer?
This verification can take longer due to an older computer or a slow internet connection.
What to do next:
1. Wait briefly. Refreshing the page will restart the security verification and may take longer.
2. If the verification still does not complete, refresh this page.
