I'm quite liking the new look. I've used Firefox pretty consistently on my desktop machines for the best part of two decades now for a number of reasons, not least of which is fuck the obvious alternatives, also for a number of reasons.

Endless fun (well, an exhausted half-smile that never quite reaches the eyes) can be had from YouTube's auto-generated subtitles.
A screengrab of a YouTube thumbnail showing a scene from Blake's 7, with the auto-generated subtitling system having interpreted "Servalan" as "sir Berlin". You know - because these things are shit.

I mean they're not wrong, are they? It is all there. All the main food groups. Dried stalks, yellow grease, brown powder, beans (not "beanz"), soap with ideas above its station and whatever the eldritch fuck went into a tinned pie in 1968.

As an addendum to this, the photographer who took the image of "Peace", Stefano Perego, has an absolutely incredible Flickr stream. Well worth a gander if you're into midcentury European concrete, rotting Soviet megastructures or just brutalism in general. www.flickr.com/photos/ste_p...

Just watched a video on abandoned Georgia, showing some spectacular, crumbling Soviet-era landmarks. Nugzar Manjaparashvili's "Peace" monument is particularly haunting. www.flickr.com/photos/ste_p...
Nugzar Manjaparashvili's "Peace" monument, a highly stylised representation of a woman, lying on her side with her arms outstretched and her palms raised. The concrete used to form the monument is heavily weathered, several of the figure's fingers have broken off and there are holes dotted about the main form which expose the metal structure beneath.

The cover of Intervals of Darkness in black and red with an image of a figure being stalked through a dark space by an unseen figure, with a quote from author John Grindrod: "Existing somewhere between Robert Aickman and J.G. Ballard, these blackly funny tales are sure to chill you, no matter how high you turn the central heating."

A clutch of 1977 Rainbow episodes just appeared on the Vintage Schools TV YouTube channel. I dunno about anyone else, but one of the best parts of the programme for me was always the slightly odd, sparse animations which popped up in each episode. I'd buy a DVD of those. youtu.be/nvYDGq8B13o?...

I don't know if anyone else on here sells via Gumroad, but I've just had this e-mail that might well interest a few...
"Hi creator,

Gumroad is hiring creators-in-residence. We pay $60,000 for the year, so you can make art full-time. The commitment is about an hour a week, for 52 weeks, and you can do it from anywhere in the world.

We want to see portfolios that showcase your human talent and experience. Paintings, films, music, video games, short stories, whatever you make.

To apply, send a portfolio of your recent work to support@gumroad.com. Applications close October 1 at midnight ET.

Thanks for building on Gumroad. What can we build for you?

The Gumroad team"

Sorry, but this is only trending because thousands of Bluesky users are asking who the fuck these people are - and not one of us will be any better off for knowing.

Lovely to get home from work and find Misty waiting for me.
A hardback copy of "Misty: 45 Years of Fear", a compilation of stories from 1970s British comic "Misty". Ostensibly aimed at girls at the time, because many boys were just too dim to know what they were missing out on (my excuse is that I was still at Beano age when Misty was being published).
