The biggest coal mine expansion ever proposed in NSW has been approved by the Minns government. It threatens to wipe out Australia's emissions reductions. This is a major test for Anthony Albanese and Murray Watt; they cannot provide federal approval to a project of this scale.

Dear @erc.europa.eu , we DO already have common standards & frameworks. 'AI' likes to pose itself as 'special' but we do not need to reinvent the wheel. We already have established codes of conduct for research integrity. We just need to apply them. See below + more resources in thread🧵
Protecting the Ecosystem of Human Knowledge: Five Principles
We must protect and cultivate the ecosystem of human knowledge. AI models can mimic
the appearance of scholarly work, but they are (by construction) unconcerned with truth
— the result is a torrential outpouring of unchecked but convincing-sounding “informa-
tion”. At best, such output is accidentally true, but generally citationless, divorced from
human reasoning and the web of scholarship that it steals from. At worst, it is confidently
wrong. Both outcomes are dangerous to the ecosystem.
Olivia Guest, Iris van Rooij, Marcela Suarez, et al. (2025, n.p.)
Knowledge production is supposed to be safeguarded by (inter)national codes of conduct for research
integrity (ALLEA 2023; KNAW et al. 2018). Such codes forbid, for instance, fabrication of data,
falsification of results, plagiarism, and, generally, distortion of the scientific record. Many argue that
new rules are required to regulate academic AI use, but pre-existing guidelines fit the bill (cf. Tafani

From @meresearchuk.bsky.social In the fourth deep-dive of our weekly Symptom Saturday series, we explore debilitating fatigue in ME/CFS – including lived experience, research insights, related diagnostic delays, and management. Read more: www.meresearch.org.uk/fatigue-in-m... #MEcfs #CFS #PwME
FATIGUE IN ME/CFS
Fatigue in ME/CFS is not "just tiredness", it is a debilitating, unrelenting exhaustion that is inadequately relieved by rest and drastically reduces one's capacity to carry out daily activities.
• ME/CFS-related research highlights: • Low heart rate variability linked to higher fatigue levels. • Potential functional/structural brain differences, such as in prefrontal cortex, related to fatigue. • A study showed that whilst the nature of fatigue across different chronic disease cohorts was similar, people with ME/CFS had much higher levels of total fatigue than any of the other groups. Although the studies have limitations, they are a starting point for further research.

Me trying to explain the insanity of the tech scene at a networking breakfast yesterday and realising half way through that I sounded like a maniac. Full quote in alt. www.iankduncan.com/personal/202...
Follow the connections out from that room and you pass through some genuinely strange territory. A Harry Potter fanfic used as a recruiting pipeline. Psychological workshops that former participants describe as coercive. A program for breeding smarter children, promoted by an AI institute. A sex worker from Idaho who became one of the subculture’s most-read writers and now runs an AI-doom propaganda residency with Grimes, Elon Musk’s ex-girlfriend. A splinter sect that fled to tugboats and whose members have been linked to six deaths. And a blogger who wanted to abolish democracy, found the ear of several billionaire patrons, and watched his ideas come to fruition in the vice president’s office.

I am aware, that if you are not lurking on the internet as much as I do, of how utterly insane that paragraph sounds. However, every bit of it is heavily documented by numerous source
