Whilst every individual’s experience is unique, it is striking how many shared themes emerge across the PEM survey responses. When people from all walks of life describe similar physical experiences, it offers a powerful insights into ME/CFS. tinyurl.com/PEMimpactME

For ME Research Day 2026, ME Research UK asked researchers working on projects funded by the charity for their experience of working collaboratively. Here is what they had to say: #MEResearchDay2026
Prof Godderis:

“Our work on ME/CFS clearly illustrates how progress depends on bringing together complementary expertise – from clinical research to molecular biology and patient-centred perspectives. Collaboration across institutions was essential to translate complex biological mechanisms into clinically relevant insights.”
Prof Godderis: “Close collaboration between research teams and specialised laboratories proved crucial. When initial analytical approaches did not deliver as expected, collaboration enabled us to pivot methodologically and continue generating meaningful results.”Jolien Hendrix:

“The value of collaboration lies not only in combining knowledge, but in seeing the same problem through different eyes. Having this collaboration, we can have a strong methodological approach for lab analysis but still make it as relevant and feasible for people with ME/CFS”
