Perturbations that reduce proteasomal activity in mice or increase proteasomal activity in humans affect developmental tempo, thereby providing a causal link. Thus, active protein degradation is a key determinant of developmental tempo.

Teresa Rayon @trayon.bsky.social · 15/08/2026
These differences persist in post-mitotic neurons and are also observed in the embryonic spinal cord in vivo.

Human NPs exhibit longer protein half-lives, reduced proteasomal activity, and lower proteasome abundance.

Teresa Rayon @trayon.bsky.social · 15/08/2026
Protein half-lives are also shorter in mouse NPs than in human NPs, revealing faster degradation of orthologous proteins irrespective of function, abundance, size, or cellular compartment

Teresa Rayon @trayon.bsky.social · 15/08/2026
We find that protein turnover is faster in mouse NPs, driven in part by higher rates of protein synthesis

A thoughtful piece on what it means to be a postdoc: *independence is about moving forward without all answers *use science conversations to make sense of uncertainty, beyond presenting results *a postdoc is as much about learning to think & adapt as it is about generating data & publishing
