As I’ve asked many times now, what constituencies does a university president represent? Because too often, the answer seems to not include anyone who works or studies at the university, and that seems like a problem.

This 33-year-old nurse told the FBI she knew she was “going to set him free” after border patrol agents brought in a man whose face was bloodied and seriously injured. She treated him and helped him escape, and she faces charges now. He got away, and they never relocated him.

The "antisemitism isn't systemic" argument falls apart when you grasp the security costs borne by American Jews in just about every aspect of communal life. Nazis walking into synagogues with AR-15s are animated by the same Great Replacement Theory espoused by our Christian nationalist electeds.

I understand and share the impulse to blame university administrators. I have written plenty about them. But right now I’d like us to turn the focus to Minnesota politicians and Minnesota voters and ask what functions of the university do you want to see cut? What don’t you care about Amy Klobuchar?

The left must not let tech CEOs lead the converstion on AI regulation. Amodei's proposed "slowdown" amounts to self regulation and weakening antitrust to create a private AI duopoly. However, a legislative frontier AI moratorium and public ownership/control would break Silicon Valley.

As we get thrust into an unnecessary period of fascistic violence, war over resources, and the stripping of basic human services and dignity, the appeal of AI for the powerful isn’t just planning or war making, it’s creating a system that will do what they want and allow them to shirk all blame.

RABID BAT FOUND ON SIDEWALK
On Tuesday, September 15 at about 12pm, a bat was found on the sidewalk on Hennepin Ave between N. Washington Ave and N 3°St.
The bat died and was sent for rabies testing. This bat tested positive for

I really want people to think more like organizers. I'm seeing endless debate, and more than a little conspiracy theorizing, about the motivations behind the big companies' warnings about the danger of AI. And almost no discussion about how we seize this moment to demand the policies we want.

TOMORROW BELONGS TO US
2 panel meme. Top panel:
Guy in a military outfit including a gas mask riding on the front of a motorized something or other, a tank perhaps, with a long gun barrel sticking out. He's looking at the camera, turned around from the direction of travel. Overlaid text reads, "hey friend listen, I know the world is scary right now but"

Bottom panel:
It's a zoom in on the eyes in the gas mask. The original meme says, "it's about to get much worse" or something like that. This version is subverted where that text is removed and "the future is unknowable and will be determined by how hard we fight now for a loving world" is inserted.

Maybe postdocs are different, but during my time as a union organizer, the bespoke relationships I noticed getting disrupted by unionization were the ones where the mentor threatened to have the mentee's visa revoked unless the mentee worked all weekend and ran errands unrelated to their assignment.

Hilarious paragraph, a group overwhelmingly votes to try to have more power in negotiating their jobs and this guy complains and instead of realizing that, wow, maybe these people have a point, he's mad they didn't ask for his opinion and they aren't as split on their own opinions lol
Is unionization of postdocs on the rise? Yes. Has there been much thoughtful discussion in the scientific community of the consequences? No. On March 26, the Yale University faculty were notified of an impending vote on unionization by postdocs—but no date for a vote was announced. A second email, on April 20, announced the election on April 29 and April 30. No comments were solicited. So much for seeking informed opinions before acting. On May 1, we received a third email from the provost. Not surprisingly, the postdocs had voted to unionize. In a tally reminiscent of Pravda, we were informed the vote was 859 to 31. So much for diversity of thought.

Jennifer Nelson’s entry to this year’s Minnesota State Fair crop art
A localized version of Guernica with a loon at the center and a person holding an ICE OUT sign

“My piece was inspired by Picasso's Guernica, a work that was his response to the Nazi's bombing of the Basque town. I thought there was a fitting parallel between these incidents about the high price paid by ordinary people when aggressive regimes try out new tactics of war, as well as a fitting juxtaposition of the darkness of living such an experience and the light we shone through it in our own resistance and care for one another. The patterns near Renee Good and Alex Pretti’s mouths are actually their last words in Morse code: ‘I’m not mad at you,’ and ‘Are you okay?’”

ZIONIST
REPRESSION LAWSUIT
DURING THIS
TIME OF HEIGHTENED REPRESSION,
PEOPLE'S CITY COUNCIL (PCC] AND NATIONAL STUDENTS FOR JUSTICE IN PALESTINE [NSJP] ARE BEING SUED UNDER THE "KU KLUX KLAN ACT." THE SUIT, FILED ON BEHALF OF LOCAL ZIONIST REACTIONARIES LIKE ELI TSIVES THROUGH ATTORNEYS BACKED BY THE LOUIS BRANDEIS CENTER, ALLEGES THAT NSJP AND PCC ENTERED INTO A "CONSPIRACY" TO ORGANIZE THE APRIL 2024 UCLA PALESTINE SOLIDARITY
ENCAMPMENT WITH THE PURPOSE OF DEPRIVING JEWISH PEOPLE OF THEIR CIVIL RIGHTS ON UCLA CAMPUS. A JUDGE RULED AGAINST OUR MOTION TO DISMISS THIS LAWSUIT LATE LAST YEAR AND OUR SUBSEQUENT APPEAL IN APRIL, ALLOWING THIS CASE TO MOVE FORWARD. WE HAVE RETAINED A SOLID LEGAL TEAM TO HELP US DEFEAT THIS LAWSUIT, BUT UNFORTUNATELY WE NEED TO RAISE FUNDS FOR LITIGATION COSTS TO SEE THE PROCESS ALL THE WAY THROUGH.THIS DEVELOPMENT COMES AS ATTACKS ON US AND OTHERS WITHIN THE MOVEMENT CONTINUE TO RAMP UP.
EARLIER THIS YEAR AT THE 10TH ISRAELI-AMERICAN COUNCIL (IAC) NATIONAL SUMMIT, ADAM MILSTEIN - AN EX-IOF MULTI-MILLIONAIRE WHO FOUNDED AND FUNDS THE NOTORIOUS CANARY MISSION AND IS A MAJOR DONOR TO THE BRANDEIS CENTER - NAMED PCC AS AN ENEMY THAT MUST BE ATTACKED AS PART OF ZIONISTS' AGGRESSIVE AND OFFENSIVE STRATEGY TO TARGET GROUPS CRITICAL OF ISRAEL. [SEE NEXT SLIDE]. WITHIN THIS CONTEXT, IT BECOMES CLEAR THAT DESPITE THE LAWSUIT'S FLIMSY CLAIMS OF VICTIMHOOD WHICH RELY ON THE INDISCRIMINATE CONFLATION OF ANTISEMITISM AND ANTIZIONISM, THIS IS NOT TRULY ABOUT THE
"DEFENSE" NOR "DEPRIVATION" OF THEIR CIVIL RIGHTS AT ALL. RATHER, AS MILSTEIN HIMSELF ADMITS, IT IS YET ANOTHER THINLY VEILED ATTEMPT TO WEAPONIZE THE LEGAL SYSTEM TO INTIMIDATE US INTO SILENCE AND INCAPACITATE ANY FORM OF RESISTANCE AGAINST THE ZIONIST ENTITY'S ONGOING GENOCIDE OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE
