On 9/11, I took the morning off of homeschooling to walk to my grandma’s house with my sister to wash and cut a few five-gallon buckets of tomatoes for the various canned tomato products the extended family made. Current evidence weighs against most birth order effects, but anecdotally: I've twice organized impromptu firstborn vs. thirdborn volleyball matches. Both times, the third-borns were on average (not me, though) better athletes/volleyball players than the firsts and both times the firsts crushed us.

Maybe postdocs are different, but during my time as a union organizer, the bespoke relationships I noticed getting disrupted by unionization were the ones where the mentor threatened to have the mentee's visa revoked unless the mentee worked all weekend and ran errands unrelated to their assignment.

I spent the morning confirming that I can get to Rowan in South Jersey by taking the MFL from Somerset to 11th, and the NJT 412 Bus from 11th & Market to Glassboro. Can leave the house at 6:45 and be at Rowan by 9:15. Still feels like there’s gotta be a more efficient route.
