I have a piece in the NYT today arguing that the law should permit victims of ICE abuse to sue not just individual officers, but supervisors and policymakers like Stephen Miller and Gregory Bovino. A Democratic president and Congress could do this in 2029. And they could make it retroactive.

Another killing by ICE, this time in Maine. That’s twice in one week. How can America keep asking immigrant workers to work as usual if they are being shot dead on their way to work? Stop killing us.

In rape culture, everything a woman says means yes and nothing she says means no. This seems to assert that though she said not to come over, said no repeatedly, struggled against Platner, an ambiguous prior comment constituted irrevocable consent. Not a shocking breach not to include it.

Question for the chat that I am 100% sure chatgpt could answer instantly but i'll receive more social satisfaction from crowdsourcing, and it's killing me that I can't remember, help:
I'm trying and failing to think of the name of a band from the early 2010s (I think). I thought they were british but may have been american. They were kind of post-punk and hardcore influenced, and maybe a bit post-electroclash. They were very political but quite stern about it, including having text on their record cover about their politics. But I think they didn't talk about it during their sets, only in their music. And they wanted audiences to not be on their phones maybe?? I think the album cover I remember was black and white, with mostly close up images of the bands faces. I think there were men and women in the band. 3 or 4 members. Any ideas?

It's hard not to think of Paxton's definition of fascism when considering the extent to which the federal government under Trump has been reduced to a) a rogue murder state outside the nation's boundaries and b) a rogue, ethnic cleansing/mass deportation operation *inside* the nation's boundaries.
Historian Robert Paxton's definition of "fascism" (2004)
"Fascism may be defined as a form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation, or victimhood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy, and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion."
