Was that the same security services you dumped to visit ‘ex’ KGB colonel Alexander Lebedev and party in Umbria just after the Novichok Salisbury attack? Or the same security services whose advice you defied to put his son Evgeny in the House of Lords? Those security services?

Carney telling the European Parliament that what's needed is an alliance - his word, repeated - where nobody gets to tell the EU and Canada what to do. Good *LORD*. And met with a standing ovation. Well, that's that for the previously-existing form of Atlanticism, then.

Canada could become first ‘associate member’ of the EU, von der Leyen suggests – Europe live
European Commission president says the EU wants to ‘move the partnership with Canada to the highest level possible’ Von der Leyen says “kickstarting Europe’s economy is our number one priority,” as Europe needs to tap into its huge market, world class industries and services. She says its single market remains too fragmented and needs to reform further, with the aim of completing it by the end of next year. “Do we want to rally around our European idea that together we can decide our own destiny? Or do we let our democracies be undermined by the proxies and puppets of authoritarians? Whether it is the ultra nationalist or the anti-European, whether it’s Russian interference or disinformation, the names may be different, but their goal is the same. Continue reading...

As a general note: the median British voter is in favour of doing things that would elicit a quiet whistle of worried admiration from Bomber Harris to those who obstruct or target the RNLI, and quite rightly so. If a government cannot see that and react, it has a problem seeing the simple things.

If right wing activists target the RNLI with Violence we should charge them with terrorism and put them in jail for life. I am deadly serious. My kid isn't drowning next summer because thugs attacked RNLI volunteers. This is political violence against the people of Britain. Act accordingly.

The European Union and the Commission have just wasted a once in a generation opportunity to expand North West. If it had worked, Norway was possible next. This is so frustrating. Signals could have been made that compromise was possible, they simply weren't. What a failure for Europe this is.
