Yes I was interested to see the Bayeux Tapestry was coming to England. Yes I made an attempt to book a ticket to see it. Yes I've read about the experience, including the chance of being told to sod off AFTER you've travelled to London and stood in the queue. No I won't be trying again.

First aid and defibrillator training night in the village. I expected updates to CPR best practice. What I didn't expect was the instruction NOT to do the breathing part of CPR if no masks/dams, because of likelihood of communicable diseases like tuberculosis, now once again a problem in the UK.
A defibrillator case. Empty because we were training on it.

Stuff you need to explain about phone calls EVERY TIME. To Europeans: no you can't WhatsApp, we are in the English countryside, data signal is something we have heard of but not experienced. To anybody under 35: when we arranged you would call me, you don't need to ask permission again to DO IT.

Fortunately, by now Russian nuclear threats trigger more curiosity than concern. The paper asked me to write on "What It All Means", and the contortions Wargame had to go through to make a scenario involving possible nuclear weapons even conceivable, let alone plausible. inews.co.uk/news/world/r...

Kieron Monks from The i Paper wrote on Kaliningrad as Russia's vulnerable and exposed weak spot. Sky's "The Wargame" simulated airstrikes there in response to a Russian attack on the UK. Now Russia's embassy in London has reached for the N-word again in response. kyivindependent.com/russia-issue...

UK: anecdotal comment on the #wargame series. I've seen follow-up articles from 2 players on the Russian side, reflecting on their contribution but, more importantly, on the strategic challenges the game revealed. I've not seen anything directly from the UK participants: am I missing these? 1/2

Q. What is “far-right” today? A. Labradors. And beer. And pubs. And “symbolism of fox hunting”. Reassuringly, however, they may be “far-right” but also none of these things currently exist or ever did.

In breaking news this morning: coverage of the RAF Fairford incident is punctuated by a BBC journalist who finds life outside London so bizarre and alien that he has to explain to people what waking up in the countryside is like in the live feed.
"Birdsong, mist and the smell of manure." I don't know where Edward Rowe is from but I suspect it's not Gloucestershire.

Inevitably, lots of speculation over the possible instigators of the operation disrupted near RAF Fairford. Pointless at present because of the wide choice available. (Iran? Russia? Russia pretending to be Iran? Home-grown far-left "activists"?) We will know more in due course, but for now -

How much does America's war on Iran have in common with Russia's war on Ukraine? It's another of those questions that looks mad at first glance, until you start digging into it in detail - after which, the idea is still mad, but it's also hard to argue with the evidence for it.
Putin has a "Special Military Operation". Trump has a "Military Operation". Definitely neither of them is a war.
