The daily parade of SUVs taking over streets to drop kids off at school in my Avalon neighbourhood is mind boggling. Opening doors into traffic. Double parking since the closest spot is too far. We have wide, safe sidewalks here. But kids are driven a few blocks to school. And block my driveway.

Car-dependent design of suburban neighbourhoods and our cities creates a frustrating trade-off. Because driving is built as the default way to get anywhere, any desirable destination automatically becomes a magnet for vehicle traffic and a parking crunch.

We have two great community paths that touch Jeanne d'Arc Blvd N, but both of them dead-end instead of joining up. Why? Because the city and province use outdated excuses to justify not adding a proper crossing. Connecting active transportation routes shouldn't be an afterthought. 🚶‍♂️🚴‍♀️ (1/2)
