But when Ed Sheeran's fans decide not to buy tickets to his performances, or even demand refunds, it's bullying, mob behaviour. Since most people are not billionaires and do not own stadiums, they can exercise meaningful power only collectively. The collective exercise of power must therefore be demonised.

A side note to the "Why bother to have your players roll a skill check at all if failure means you'll roll again" If the entire campaign collapses if a perception check fails to see the clue that gets them to the next plot hook, DON'T HAVE THE PERCEPTION CHECK BE FAILABLE. (Or have redundancies)

I believe that "having done your homework" should EXPAND your enjoyment of the narrative ("Yay, my favorite character is back!") without REQUIRING it ("They're expecting us to know who this character is and so they haven't bothered to give us a scene that shows us what this character is like").

I see people telling me "You can't really appreciate X book without reading Y author first" the same as telling me "You can't appreciate this season of The Mandalorian without watching five seasons of Rebels." If I can't enjoy a book/movie/etc on its own merits, that's a flaw in the narrative.

I personally had a much higher rate of my daughters clicking with stuff, but it was also thoroughly two-way - when they found a new show/movie/band they were excited about, they tried to get me into it. And so we dialed into each other's tastes. (Not that Mr. Scalzi did not, but it worked for me)

A: The intention of this young filmmaker was never to remake any [of my films], but making something in the spirit. And I immediately said, "You will fail. It is such a stupid idea. It's phenomenally, abysmally stupid. I will not take part in it." He wanted me to explain things and have my voice in it.
I said, "You are alone. There's such a thing as free speech, which I respect. So go ahead and fail." And it is a failure, period.
It's so standardized that Al can step in because there's not real storytelling. It's mimicry of something that has happened before. And I welcome Al to replace all the idiots who are into nothing but repeating, repeating, repeating until it's ad nauseam.
