For National Poetry Day, another favourite of mine and brother, Ginsberg knew what he was talking about.
Howl By Allan Ginsberg
Coming out of my cage and I've been doing just fine
Gotta, gotta be down, because I want it all
It started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this?
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss
Now I'm falling asleep and she's calling a cab
While he's having a smoke and she's taking a drag
Now they're going to bed and my stomach is sick
And it's all in my head, but she's touching his
Chest now, he takes off her
Dress now, let me go
And I just can't look, it's killing me
They're taking control

This is incredible! I know it's to display boxes of gum but it really looks like some anthropomorphic folk horror memory of The Inquisition. Image reposted with alt text to describe the true horror of Spearman.
A display stand featuring Wrigley’s moon-faced mascot, the “Spearman". He's made of flat cut out iron with a sinister celluloid grinning face. He has spindley legs. His body is a thick arrow, with the point making up his head. His arms are stretched out, resting ona series of iron cross with 90° right angles to hold boxes of gum; they are stark and would not look out of place in a dungeon.

Coming from Gill Books in September is Seeing What's Hidden by the late Manchán Magan - (completed before his death in October 2025), and the final book in the trilogy that includes 32 Words for Field and Listen to the Land Speak thebookshop.ie/manchan-maga...
The third book in the trilogy from the late Manchán Magan, who completed the book shortly before his death in October 2025.

In his final book, Manchán Magan implores us – even dares us – to move from the limited rational world to a more expansive spiritual one. To become re-enchanted once again. To understand that there are more ways of seeing, more ways of knowing and to uncover the interconnectedness between all things.

Manchán explores how ancient Irish culture retains deep resonances with other indigenous worldviews – a way of perceiving land, language, nature and spirit as inseparable. Drawing on mythology, early law, folklore and placenames, Manchán traces how Ireland’s forests, sacred trees and landscapes shaped the Irish psyche with such a resilience that many beliefs and customs endure to this day. In Seeing What’s Hidden, Manchán implores us to look again so that we too might rediscover our cultural inheritance and chart our course forward from here.

I must admit I wasn't too aware of Jean Plaidy until I started working with vintage books many years ago, but if ever an author was due a renaissance, it's her. Historical romance as a description is probably too vague. History sagas is fairer.
