Tonight, in the RIA I was nominated for the Michel Déon Prize for non-fiction for 'Rory O'Connor: To Defend the Republic'. Didn't win sadly but a sincere congratulations to both @mauricejcasey.com and John Waddell, deserved joint winners for 'Hotel Lux' and 'The Celtic World' respectively.

Political Unionism, at the behest of Bryson et al, has picked at the sorest sectarian scab of the last 30 years, to create a festering wound. Utterly depressing considering the glimpse of the future we had during the Fleadh. They only wish to drag us back. Solidarity with the residents of Garvaghy.

Thanks to Donal, Heather and all involved at Dublin Festival of History for having me speak on Rory O'Connor today. Fantastic to see so many at the morning opening session of the Big Weekend. A brilliant, engaged crowd and some great chats after. Always a pleasure.

It was so wonderful this past Sunday to be a part of the 175th anniversary commemoration marking the death of Anne Devlin. It was a great honor to speak at both the graves of Anne and her husband William Campbell and to have worked with Mícheál Ó Doibhilín's family on this.

Superb piece by Clodagh Finn in the Irish Examiner on the legacy of Anne Devlin on the 175th anniversary of her death, also mentions the late Mícheál Ó Doibhilín's work researching Anne and details of the commemoration tomorrow. All welcome. www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/colu...

Wonderful to be at the the launch last night of 'Cathal Brugha Remembered' in the appropriate environs of Cathal Brugha Barracks. This new free publication from the Irish Military Archives was co-edited by myself and Liz Gillis, featuring contributions by an array of researchers/historians.

The 2017 third season of 'Twin Peaks' is a total artistic and narrative failure and in time will be seen as such. And I say this a former David Lynch uber fan, I loved the 'Fire Walk With Me' prequel film and even enjoyed the utterly surrealist 'INLAND EMPIRE'.

I know you're not allowed to say this during the current debate, but the reason the left dominates academics, art, comedy, and music is that the right has stupid, discredited ideas, they're not funny, and dull resentment does not make for good art. No grand conspiracy required.

To those who use GenAI for "creative" reasons: Friction is vital. It challenges your brain in essential ways. If you don't like being challenged, step aside. Give those who want to put the work into their craft opportunities to succeed, coz clearly you're not willing to be an actual creative.
